I applied for a prestige tag for my 67. Simple; 67-L79. I get a letter today from the Dept. of Revenue telling me the tag "contains a combination of letters/numbers that are obscene". I can't imagine the thought process in our government that determined 67L79 is obscene. Am I missing something here? . Can't believe this happened. Now you know it did me no good to call them. So I had to option and wrote a letter to appeal to a review board of three panel members.

I think it is the symetry of the lettering and the way in which it could be interpreted. The "7L7" could be construed as a pair of noses, eyes blinking around a nose..., or maybe even male genetalia... (maybe upside down where the 69 is still 69). Someone probably thought you were trying to be "cute" and outsmart the system and they weren't going to have that.

Had a dentist buddy in Virginia who ran a plate that said “ICU4DK”. Clever.

Funny, the first thing I thought of was that L7 means 'square', (opposite of 'hip' )and used as slang for such, back in the '50's--'60's. The song 'Little Red Riding Hood' by Sam the Sham used the term in 1965. I was refused 'CNTNDR' in 1980 as obscene in California.....(contender). Oh well....DMV types were (and are) calling the shots.

I have never laughed as hard and been so surprised as when I opened the package from The Oklahoma Tax Commission, Special Plates Division. I was shocked that it was approved !

I guess my old "FU" plates would be a no no in Georgia.

I saw one here in PA awhile back, that even made me think about it as she went by, but honestly it was "SEE-UNT" it obviously slipped by a sleepy or not to sharp DMV employee...

For years my wife had "CONS VET" on her Corvette. Everyone thought car belonged to some prison convict. Her name is Connie. She changed it to MOMS VET.
