Looks like it was run as a “hardtop” at a local dirt track!

I truthfully am not sure exactly where it is...he told me but I didn't pay much attention really. He's always finding stuff and has storage buildings himself full of all sorts of cool cars and parts. Only occasionally sells stuff himself. It IS in TX.....he showed me the pics yesterday of all sorts of stuff he found there. The guy has lots of old race car stuff and vintage iron....but from what I gathered it's one of those places that collects..doesn't sell much. But my buddy is working on him. If he scores anything I'll let you know.

Just seeing it in that shape and seeing that it was raced like that just stood out.

Cool. Keep us posted Jim. If nothing else, another C2 gets rescued, kind of like neglected dogs.

That's a pic. of Lincoln Corvette in Seattle. I went there many times back in the 70's.

There were a few C-3's in the pics also. One had L-88 flares on rear as well as L-88 hood. Someone's old hot rod...

I think what we might see is the headliner or trim piece hanging down.....I had to look long and hard to decide it was a 64.

And though it is hard to believe, there are still a few places like that in existence. The difference is that they are not junk yards where you can buy parts or project cars, they are all "future restoration projects" being hoarded by the owners.

I am friends with one such family. They have three 1954s, two 1956s, one 1957, one 1959, one 1960, one 1963 convertible, one 1974 coupe, as well as running and driving 1987 convertible and 1990 ZR-1. All cars have VIN tags and Alabama paperwork.

The owner would gladly sell them, but the owner's daughter and son-in-law have convinced her that they need to be saved as future toys / investments for her 5 grand children.

My bet is that 10 minutes after the owner passes away, the son-in-law will be making arrangements to sell them. We all know it is easier to sell other people's property than it is to actually work for a living.

What it says is that:

a) these wrecks were before the days of the texting, tailgaters....
b) other cars could not catch up closely enough to a Corvette to rear end one
c) aggressive Corvette drivers back in the day ran into a lot of things..

Pick any one you like...

So the C2s were all front end collisions but how about all of the C1s that seem to be intact???

They were just worn-out, obsolete cars at the time. Nothing special to many folks........

Why would that point to driver error? You don't think that driver's of other cars hit people in the front be it moving of hitting parked cars?

2022 C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified

No different back then as it is today, look at the insurance auction website and probably 80% of the damage is front end. Most cars are moving forward when they hit either another vehicle or a stationary object, so naturally, the majority of damage is to the front end.

I remember going to GW Pierce salvage yard on the east side of Indy back in the early 80's, they had a fenced in corral area with mostly C2 corvettes and a few C1s, then a few rows of C3s outside the fenced area. Lots of good parts available, got to remember that GM still stocked a lot of replacement parts back then, and the reproduction parts market was limited, so the junkyard and swap meets was the only place to get certain items. Loved crawling around looking for stuff. Probably destroyed some valuable parts getting what I needed back then.

(Sighs)

You are right, sorry for my silly generalization. You didn’t like it a few days ago and I see why now.

A preponderance of high performance cars with their front ends ripped off sitting in a junkyard- evidently years before they were out of financial reach by young people- are probably mostly the result of little old ladies turning left in oncoming traffic.

Internet forum victory is yours!

They would be better off liquidating the bunch and putting their money in the S & P for their grand kids

Don't forget that these cars were driven year around in snow and ice, many without posi or snow tires. I owned a '57 in '67 that had been tagged on all four corners when I bought it. Very few no hit body cars left.
