We are on the same page. I’m going to use a piece of the original wheel well that I remove to extend the bottom or the leading edge of the rear flare just as you described.

i couldn’t find any string, but some Christmas ribbon shows the new belt line for the leading edge of the front flare.

Not my style, but the thing is this, and there's no getting around it - I'm not paying for it - you are. So, you get to decide.

When other people donate, they get a vote. Other than that, it's just opinions, and only yours matters.

The one proviso I would ask is that if you do it, do it well. No hack jobs.

Controversial subject, ain’t it. I’m going to say more against than pro. I’m guessing that most of the mid year purists would say they would never want a Vette that sounds like this. Or looks like this.

That tape angle looks pretty severe, more gradual s curve would be better. I think.

A very fair ask and one I will be trying very hard to achieve. Fortunately fiberglass is very forgiving, however I may not post the steps on the front flares until the last one is complete. It would be like watching open heart surgery. Not for the faint of heart or squeamish!

I’m sure I’ll mock it up a dozen times before I make a single cut.

I actually prefer more of a convex curve to that concave curve.

Mixing up some sculpting foam may be a good guide to help you get where you want.

The Flares look like OverSized Mud Flaps. You will be" severely limiting" your buyers for "Resale".
Put on some Knock-Off Wheels and do whatever you want for making your car into a Resto-Mod.

The flares on this car must have come from Corvette Pacifica because that car is pictured on their website along with the pictures of the flares and part numbers.

I would love to have one of those!! Doesn't sound like a V8? But sounds great. Turbo on smaller V8? Thanks Saddletan

Front flair looks great rear is different shape and looses body line and tire too small to fill wheel well. But it is a racer.

^I completely agree with this comment.

What I want to avoid is the cut and rounded wheel well look. I’m sure it’s great for a quick tire change, but the rear in that picture cuts right through the body line. I want the look where the body line starts right at the nose curve and continues down the side to the back of the rear flare with a sharp dip in at the rear of the front flare and out at the front of the rear flare. As I mentioned, the most work will be required in the front to properly extend the radius of the nose belt line into the flared wheel well.

Factoid;

I do not have a dog in this fight, and I am ALL FOR car owners doing whatever they want to make THEIR car THEIR car.

I do wonder if you could not locate a decent mid year coupe that already has those sort of custom flares, etc. installed?

Not sure how plentiful they would be, but who knows. That would possibly save you the expense and effort of doing the body mods.

Anyway, enjoy whatever you decide to do, and please keep us posted

JV, I have looked for the last year as that was my intention from the beginning. They tend to be cheaper, but every one I have found had a major flaw I couldn’t live with - elimination of the pop up headlights or a one piece front end without the buckets. I do realize the irony in some people’s eyes of my willingness to cut up a classic shape, but unwillingness to accept what others thought looked great. I have found several that only had ugly cut out flares, but they had big block engines, great paint or other things that put them in the $70k+ range. I also wanted a coupe, preferably white with a total investment of <$70k.

My budget right now now puts me right at $70k and that includes the car, flares, 65 BB hood, paint, Ridetech coilover suspension, Borgeson PS, Wilwood big brakes, engine, TKO 600, rebuilt posi, new wheels/tires and a return to the correct black and silver interior. That is with all work performed in my garage and offset for the parts I can sell.

I realize there are several people on this site that are completely pissed at my decision and others that are excited about the possibilities. Both fair positions. I will continue to post updates, share the details and progress, and take whatever criticism and accolades come my way. Thanks for your comments.

Factoid you could have taken your $70K budget and restored that rare special colored car and ended up with a nice $40K car!! Would have made the purists happy. Instead your building your one off car for you. I think it is great and can't wait to see the progress as you move forward.

I pretty much figured that you had already looked for a different car as a starting point, and I am not surprised that you did not find one. It gets tough to find a good starting point for a custom car, other that a virtually stock looking car.

Best of luck on the build sir, and keep us posted.

It looks like someone has stared at Kim's "Car-Dash-Line" rear end for too long. I prefere my 1966 Elizabeth's "Tyre-Roll" original lines!!!!!

Oh come on, who doesn’t like a nice caboose and an exaggerated headlight area?

I like my cars like I like my women. Curvy, fast and fun to drive.
