Oh, well...not going to Winston-Salem any time soon, although my daughter almost went to school at Salem so I do like the town...

Still a couple months away from working on and being able to afford cosmetics, but will post when ready.
Cheers,

I really like how you added that chrome touch to the lettering on your valve covers.. Did you purchase them that way or did you have someone customize them?

So, another stupid question: I bought a 327/300 '66. I LOVE the finned aluminium Corvette valve covers that did not come on my car from the factory. Since I am not interested in competition, what do people think of changing out the originals (if the bolt pattern works) with the aluminium ones? I would keep the painted ones, of course, but I just happen to like the look of the others.
Is this a totally bonehead move or considered OK as long as I know the difference and keep the factory ones cleaned up and stored away?
Cheers,
Richard

And obviously they work on 327 heads.

I chose the traditional Corvette ones as my budget does not currently have room for these beauties! Maybe someday when I get caught-up. I have not even gotten to the point of putting them on yet--way too many other important items to take care of, but I have them and they will go on eventually.
Thanks for the ideas--they are pretty darn cool to me!
Cheers,
Richard

The casting flaw (the ridge in the "o") appeared late 1966 production. So you can use either on your car, unless your audience wants to coordinate the car's production date with the valve cover casting date!

The 420 boat engine.
SB400 in our 70 Chevelle with cowl induction hood.
350 in our son's 68 Chevelle.
With all of the above comments, there may be some folks here that are too young to remember the 50s.
In the late 50s, MANY, MANY friends and people that I knew, if they had ANY KIND of Chevy with a small block, went to the local parts dept, bought a pair of finned covers and put them on their engine-----------------------that has continued right up to today. It's almost standard procedure to have finned covers on your Chevy SB engine.
ALLLLLLLLLLLLL my SB powered cars (and the boat) have finned Chevy valve covers. One of the BEST parts Chevy ever made.
My 51 Chevy has a 389 with 2x4 carbs and a Batwing air cleaner and has one flawed valve cover. The cover with the flaw is under one of the air cleaner pots(right side) and cannot be seen.
It's hard to beat Chevy's finned alum valve covers------------no matter which version. I will NEVER understand why they did not do something similar for BB Vettes!
I am also a lover of the early Z-28/LT1 intake manifolds and install them when I can get them.

So how do you add oil if you’re using a current intake manifold? Or is that a “D’oh” question?

Otherwise, the 69-later finned alum covers, WITHOUT the Corvette script have a twist-in cap for putting in oil, as shown in my last picture above.
I have always been able to round up an intake with a hole for an oil filler tube.
