Default slightly OT - Motion 69 at Mecum

Guys, not a C2, but what a interesting car sold Friday (among many) at Mecum.....a Baldwin Motion big block 69 corvette in Green....with side pipes, mags...and a unique overdrive, with a overdrive lever (in cab)....car had a 5.13 rear gear but with overdrive it made it seem like about a 3.0...don't think it sold but woah, was that something...(to me).

Pretty cool car. Looks like it sold later for 115K.

I remember seeing the Motion cars on L.I in the day. Some were really cool, I did not care for the headlight mods on some of the cars.

The Motion Cars did run well … .

SEMA approved flywheel , thinking they mean something else?
Cool car, cant imagine what 5.13s are like to drive. Love the look of it.

Picture feeling / sounding like going 100 mph but actually going 40 mph...

Hone Overdrives were offered by a number of specialty manufacturers like Shelby and Motion Performance back in the day. It allowed them to sell cars that performed amazingly, to a large extent because of their rear gears, and still offer reasonable driving manners. Overdrives were even offered by many of the OE's in the 50's and early 60's, Hone just took them to another level and offered them to the aftermarket where a lot of folks were changing rear gears to do the same thing with their street cars.

Hone is still in business but focusing more on the 4 X 4 market since the OE's are offering overdrive transmissions in most of their vehicles now.

Good luck... GUSTO

Likely SFI approved steel flywheel, but journalistic license is always forgiven.

We ran my buddy's 427 Camaro on the street with a TM2R intake and 5.13 gears. The acceleration would sink you into the seats. The 55 mph speed limit of the day was only ~3300 rpm on 30 inch tires (and we always drove below the speed limit ).

The TM2R and an 850 cfm Holley were much better than the L88 intake and same Holley above 5000 rpm, but not as good as a C454 and a 1050 cfm Dominator (that would run to 8000 rpm).

Besides the car just being a beast, the 5.13 gear is what got my attention. As soon as you side step the clutch you are going for 2nd gear...may be a car that would've actually lifted the front wheels on the street...(everybody used to say they knew cars that could do that "back in thee day" [let's say in the '70s for me] but few without slicks could have....)

From Fidanza Flywheel: "SFI is short for SFI Foundation, Inc. SFI originally started out of SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association founded in 1963 by several performance and racing parts manufacturers as an organization to promote the development of safer parts, as well as, product specifications and standards to be used by the suppliers of speed equipment. Originally standing for SEMA Foundation Inc., SFI was eventually spun off as a stand-alone organization that is dedicated to developing safety specifications and testing for a wide variety of products used in racing. Today, SFI specification is required on many parts used in racing around the world. From wheels and engine parts to safety harnesses and fire suits, SFI approval is a recognized standard that the product you are using meets established safety standards determined by SFI Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with various sanctioning bodies and technical experts throughout the industry."

That's a sweet car and I think someone got a decent deal. There's a 429 Cobra Jet Torino rusting away near me that had a Hone O/D in it. At one time it was laying in the trunk but probably long gone now.
