Default Windshield post repair

I just received my windshield posts back with the new tabs.
My question is should I install the tabs before I send them to get chromed and should I install the studs first?

I would leave the studs and plate off, but you might have to "chase" the stud hole threads when the piece is returned from plating due to material accretion...

Or perhaps have some short "throwaway" studs in the holes that can be removed and tossed after plating...

For a definitive answer you could call Paul Mazut (who may be doing the for the big vendors anyway) and ask him:

I would not want my studs chromed for sure. If you look at the holes he installed Helicoils in them. You sure don't want chrome on those, it would be very difficult to chase the threads. They look like self locking Helicoils which would make chasing even harder. Just put some old screws in them and remove them after plating. The plater may have some thing he can apply to keep the plating from sticking to that area. As a final note I would remove the tangs from those Helicoils. They are made to snap off fairly easy. Take a punch as close to the size of the hole and give them a quick pop or use small needle nose pliers and pull them out. Either way just be sure after you remove the tab that the coil is still in the groove of the thread.

Heres a thread I would read through before having the posts chromed.

Then after they are chromed.
