B/W Trans expert needed
Help,
I'm gathering parts for a Borg Warner T 10, 1963 for a rebuild. This is the rare 'small bearing" input bearing version which I believe is 63 Vette and 409 cars only. My problem is the front bearing retainer is aluminum and has some wear on the tube where the throw out bearing slides back and forth. I have been told late 50's B/W 3 speed is the same, but made of cast iron. I have tried to find a speedy sleeve without any luck. Does anyone know the casting number of the cast iron one and if in fact it will work as a replacement? I found one that has 107033A--2 on it (323119797071 e-bay) but the owner doesn't know what it is from.
thanks in advance for any help.

I believe you should look for GM 604932 front bearing retainer, it's the cast iron version of the aluminum #278 retainer. The wear you see is common to the aluminum retainer and you are doing right changing it.
Get some good eyes on the gears and sliders, these parts are available in the aftermarket and of good quality. When I did mine I installed a NOS input and cluster(counter shaft) gear along with new second, third and new sliders. The torque lock slider was used for first/second gears and the standard slider for third/forth gears.
If you need parts call Larry at D&M transmissions, you will need to search for the number, Larry is a great guy and my experience with him was very good.

Tom hooked me up with Larry when I had two empty 58 T-10 cases. Took Larry about three minutes on the phone with me and he shipped 100% complete mint, near mint and NOS internals and the price was right on the money. He is in New York and I am in Texas. He made it so easy-no brainer!
For many years I've always wanted an M22 in the 70 Chevelle. I have acquired several good cases and finally decided to just build my own M22 using one of my excellent cases. So I had Larry send me an M22W gear set (Italian gears) plus a rebuild kit. Now, I finally have a real M22 in the Chevelle. MANY, or MOST people do not like the noisy whine of an M22---------------I just had to have the whine (as well as the added strength), now I got it. Love it!
For sure, a brand new, stronger Auto Gear M22 can be installed, but at double or triple of the price of buying a gear set and building an M22 in a genuine Muncie case, which is what I wanted.
Other sources are available for manual transmission parts, but doing business with Larry is as good as you can get!!!

OK, looking for some expert opinions here from trans experts. A friend says he doesn't think this needs to be rebuilt. I drained the oil and no metal or any thing that looked out of the ordinary. The syncro and gears look to have good "tent shape" and are not rounded off. There is no roughness in any of the gears when rotating and does not appear to have been leaking. It came in a car I bought that did not run. The guy I bought it from says it worked ok when parked but that was 20 years ago. Pictures are the best I could do. Let me know what you all think. Thanks again.

Yes, it looks good, but there is no way to know what lies beneath. Put a new side cover gasket on it, put the side cover back on and drive it. Accelerate, then decelerate in 2nd and 3rd gear, If all sounds good---------------------AND it does not jump out of 2nd or 3rd gears during deceleration, it probably is just fine.

There is also another alternative. The typical 3 speed bearing retainer used in a 4 bolt side cover 3 speed has the same bolt pattern, screw type nut and small bearing, however it came with a larger 4.684 diameter. This is easily turned down and works perfect.
Thanks,
Paul
