The foam dash pad in my '62 is pretty shriveled up by the sun. I have a new one MIB that came with the car, along with a set of new seat belts. I've heard the only way to remove this dash pad is by removing the windshield. I don't want to take the time to remove any parts unless I'm going to replace or restore them. This goes for the windshield frame. Can this dash pad be replaced without removing windshield? I don't have the weather stripping, and I know some of these can be a bitch to remove.
Thanks.
Bob

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's your only option.
You simply can NOT do the job without removing the windshield - which makes it one of the most onerous jobs on the C1s....if the forward lip of the pad isn't glued down into the windshield body channel underneath the windshield frame - it will shrink out from there and look like living crap in no time at all. Don't take a shortcut on this restoration task... Here is my 61 pad some owner butchered up in that manner before I replaced it. Once the vinyl shrank from exposure there was a good 1/4" or more gap at the edge of the pad.
No surprises here, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Even though I've begun restoration of the powertrain and suspension, I'm not quite ready to begin restoration of topside and interior. I will probably look for a dash cover or have one custom made,Thanks,Bob
Lot's of guys here have replaced their own dash pads. It's not one bit more difficult than sewing up and replacing the convertible top of a Rolls Royce Silver Wraith . Not one more bit. As easy as building a Swiss watch, but with a lot more strain on your back. No worries.

Go to www.dashdesigns.com. Select your vehicle, material and color and pay about $40 and wait a week. I run a C1 and C2 cover in Florida summers. In my truck and SUV too.
