Sometimes the reset cable will hold the trip odometer spring loaded reset mechanism. This disengages the trip odometer from the cross gear. Try pulling out on the cable, and drive a bit. This may allow the trip to operate again.
That's what I had to do to mine. Put the cluster on 2 long screws, slide it out a little and unscrew the cable to "realign' it to the gear. You may have to play with the cable a little to slip it in the slot. Mine had come out when I had the cluster and I didn't get it aligned right putting back in. Didn't realize it until I tried to reset it! It stayed that way for a year or two until it finally bugged me enough and I fixed it last year.
While the cluster is pulled out is there any other “while you’re in there” things to do? Bulbs? Where’s a good source?
thanks!
You could put LED bulbs in the dash. I replaced the "gray wire" gauge bulbs with the BA9 "warm white" versions but left the flashing lights, turn signals, hi beam indicators alone...
Its also a good time to make sure the speedo and tach cables are good and snug and that the oil gauge line is leak free...
