Teak wheel
Here are some pictures of a teak wheel that I purchased thinking it was an original, but I would like to get some opinions on its authenticity. Please let me know what you think, as I am considering selling it and want to advertise it correctly.
Those look like pictures of two different steering wheels to me. The top pictures are suspect to me as being a reproduction. the bottom pictures appear to have characteristics of an original wheel but could also be one of the better made reproduction wheels like a Freeman wheel.
I'll go out on a limb and call that a beautiful reproduction teaker.
The wood segments lack the distinctive old growth appearance of old original wheels, and the finger grooves look like as if cut yesterday.
She's a beauty! Someone should snap it up quickly at the right price.
Looks real enough to me. Certainly good enough to enjoy!
My car came with a wood wheel, and from all I can determine, it looks like a Freeman repro model. Since I don't care for wood steering wheels (I know, heresy in Corvette world) I replaced it right away with a GM comfort grip wheel that I like much better.
I guess I will sell it eventually--I also have new repro Silvertown gold stripe bias tires on the car as well that I don't want.
I assume these parts were put on the car for points; I need radials for driving around, so those have to go, as well.
Do owners want the repro steering wheels these days? Do they want the bias tires (for points, I guess) these days?
I will post for sell or trade if you all think they are needed by other owners. Nothing worse than parts sitting around collecting dust that someone actually needs for their car!

Does anyone know if a cnc router would be required to make a new teak wheel this nice?

In my opinion, you can make one just as nice with a router using a Jasper Perfect Circle Cutter to mount the router. Just a flat piece of plastic about 4-5" wide, but has predrilled holes allowing a perfect circle to be cut in 1/16" increments from 7" diameter to 18" diameter. It's what I and others have used in building our own wheels.
A craftsman could do one as nice using his own fabricated circle cutter as well, but it'd be more work . . . . .
That's my opinion, others are invited and may vary . . . .
