Default 1961 covetable top straps

does anyone have photos of where both ends of the straps mount? The NCRS manual says one end on the door striker column. I don't see any old holes and from general pictures it looks like the other end mounts somewhere on deck lid? If anyone has photos of the strap mounted that would really help.

There should be (maybe) two indent divots for screw locations under neath the deck lid, towards the sides. The first screw holes is "about" 3.5" back from the edge on the lid. The snap mounts on the top of "****" in the right of your first picture, just very so slightly towards the inside of the car.

Thankyou both. Are the fasteners under the deck lid snaps or do the straps use screws into holes? The judging guide says the fastener on the door post is a Vee shaped fitting that the male portion of the snap slides into. Is that what you guys have?

Under the deck lid are screws into the lid and upholstery type washers against the tab. The door post is a regular snap and the tab (strap) has a SLIDER that allows the strap to slide off the snap on the door jamb when the cover is lifted.

The other pictures are from my 60, this last one is from another forum member's post from a while back.

I ordered mine from Al Knoch, the tabs and the hardware. The slider is already on the tab from AK.

The tabs screw under the deck lid - I don't get the Vee thing...the forward end of the tabs should have a "channel" fastener (as shown above) that secures the tab to the male snap on the door pillar - this is to allow the deck lid to pop open (as the female fastener "slides" off the male snap) when the big silver button is pressed...you should also always snap those tabs on with that channel parallel with the driveshaft for the same reason....

The picture above is why some really hate the repro tabs, unlike the originals, all the repros seem to harden and split after some time and turn into "potato chips"...
