Hey guys I have a TKO600 and I need the install kit including the offset shifter. It’s been a pain trying to get someone on the phone at all the different TKO companies so I thought I’d ask you guys till I hear back from them. Does anyone sell the install kit without the transmission?
Why not call Tremec themselves, (248-859-6500) They usually have a big trailer set up at the major car shows. You called Hurst Drivelines and couldn't get anyone on the phone? I've talked to them several times over the years without any problem.
Have you called American Power Train? I used their kit and if I remember correctly, the Tremec case has to be milled to fit the shifter for the Corvette. I did mine 10 years ago so it's a little fuzzy for me. Jerry
I not sure about Hurst and APT, but the Keisler/SST shifter adapter requires machining the TKO case. Some of the kits used a weird, doglegged shifter lever to get the shifter to the stock C2 console opening. With a fair amount of Googling you can see the design approach for the various shifter adapters. The SST approach, although the most complex requiring complete disassembly of the trans, I saw as the best design and probably the most expensive to accomplish. I'm not sure that just a bolt-on shifter conversion for the C2 exists.
Only one that got back to me after leaving messages and emails was SST. They do say I have to send in my trans for machining and price would be $4k plus shipping both ways. At that price it would make more sense to buy he whole kit new. I did not try hurst I’ll try them today. Goodguys is also coming up this weekend here in Pleasanton hopefully one of the vendors has a space there that can help.
Sounds like it’s 4k for the complete kit to install the TKO plus machining my trans when I ship it to them. I’m going to call them again hopefully I get through today to see if I can buy the kit and have someone local do the machining.
You will have warranty and full kit although you'll be about the same when you add what you paid for your trans to the $4K they are charging to mod your Tremec.

EXACTLY my thought! Then if there’s a problem it’s “one neck, one noose” for resolution.
I was hoping not to have to go that route but I might have to if no one will sell the kit without having to ship them my trans.
I've done a couple of these and although, straight forward (kind of) it can be a bit of a headache.
To echo Frankie, having one vendor in your hip pocket is money well spent.
If you are having a 3rd party do the install they will appreciate the instructions that come with the kit, and if there are issues it will provide the greatest opportunity for quick resolution, and you don't have to get in the middle of it (unless you want to).
Oh, the hydraulic clutch "upgrade" sounds cool but not worth the install hassle (reinforcing the floor behind the clutch cylinder), plus if it leaks, everything has to come out, new clutch, etc, etc.
There are many install threads that contain some of the tricks that won't necessarily be in the instruction manual.
I’m in agreement with others on sell what you have and buy the kit. I bought my TKO600 from SST in February. They were great to work with and I also ended up buying the flywheel, clutch etc. from them. The warranty is excellent, but they do require you to perform and document BH runout and send it back to validate your warranty. You should bo this anyway. You have a very wide audience for selling your current TKO. In the end you will be happier and better protected.

I don't think there has ever been a "kit" that you can buy to install an offset shifter on a TKO 600. There are several modifications to the tail housing casting and the shift linkage to implement what you get from SST when you purchase the TKO 600 from them that has the offset shifter. That's why they add about $1000 to the cost of a standard Tremec TKO. And BTW, I think SST has stopped selling the TKO and replaced it with the TKX. However, they probably still have all the necessary parts and tooling for the TKO conversion.
That being said, the main ingredient in the offset shifter conversion is a shifter that SST sells separately for about $300. This is a well-engineered shifter that is also used for the non-offset TKO 600. It is extremely rugged and high quality.
Everything else required for the conversion to an offset shifter is mechanical linkage and mounting hardware that is fairly straightforward for someone who has mechanical fabrication skills. It is possible that you could persuade SST to sell you those parts as well, but if not, you could make them yourself or have them made.
Bottom line, it's difficult to beat the $1000 premium that SST charges to put an offset shifter on a TKO 600 (or TKX). If you have the resources to do some fabrication and you want to give that a try, send me a PM and I will take some photos and measurements of the shifter arrangement on my TKO 600 with the offset shifter. I currently have it out of the car, so it would be easy to photograph.
