Reno, you need to drive it some to keep it in good working order. As you know, cars that just sit tend to dry out oil seals, rot out brakes, attract mold and rodents, and on and on. Up where you are, with a lot of great roads that aren't crowded, I would be taking it out on a nice 50-100 mile run at least once a month to keep every thing limber. Congrats on the purchase. We don't live forever, and you can't burn rubber with a 401k.
Roger that. After sitting for over 2 yrs even stored "Properly" I had to rebuild the carb, tires flat spotted, brakes were soft, etc. Even paint and body work ages, it sure shows may as well drive the beans out of it.
Got a few rock chips behind the rear wheels along with chunks of melted M/T dont bother me a bit!! lol
The LT-1 was the KING of the Gen1 small blocks.
Holly 4-barrel, solid lifters, high lift cam, forged TRW pistons, high volume oil pump, and a 6500 redline.
I've got one in my '61.
The 1970 version in the LT-1 Corvette had an 11:1 CR and was rated at 370hp.
They reduced the CR to 9:1 in 1971 causing the HP to drop to 330hp.
Another drop came in '72 to 255hp. This is much disputed due to changes in the way hp was measured.
Still a cool motor... and a beautiful car. Congrats!
I will definitely drive it weather permitting. I think I will buy some different wheels and some radials. What is going to please me the most is to see my wife and daughter wheeling it around. Nothing like hot chickens in a hot vette
Reno, Your car is beautiful! I had a 1972 Orange LT-1 Air Conditioned coupe for a while. Loved the car but it did not compare to your convertible. When I sold my coupe I made money. I believe I made about about forty percent in a two year period. While no one can guarantee a profit on anything, I would be jumping for joy with a return like that on stocks or real estate.
Congrats on the new purchase. My feeling is to drive the wheels off the car and not worry about the resale. I always thought that not driving the car is like not sleeping with your wife so she will be tight for the next guy after you are gone. Enjoy the car. Jerry
Thats one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard some funny things!!
I also thought that was funny but true. I always tell people that don't like to drive there super nice cars. What are you keeping it like new so your kid can beat the crap out of it
My Cousin had the LT1 in a 70 Z28, that car really ran sweet. Had no trouble with the Fast Road Runners running around back then.
Buddy had the LT1 1970 version in a 69 Camero back in 1975 he loved the power but claimed it was only good for 8 MPG running a 750 Double Pumper.
Believe it or not he sold that car to get a car with better gas mileage after only 3 months.
