On my 65 BB, I don’t WANT to know the gas mileage!

There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for that...

Many years ago, a few of us got together while attending school and rented a small house near our university. One of the roommates was incredibly **** about his gas mileage - an accounting major of course. He would check his mileage every time he filled up and brag or lament for days about it depending on whether it went up or down. Always searching for a reason or method to correct it.

One day, we all decided something needed to be done about his obsession with gas mileage. That evening we siphoned about 2 gallons of gas from the car. Within a few days our accounting major filled up his car and of course noticed his horrible mileage. A few days later the 2 pilfered gallons along with a couple more were returned to his tank. This went on back and forth for a couple of months, what a hoot! We were all having a great laugh about it at his expense, as we offered up one hair-brained solution or another, all with a straight face, to address his terribly inconsistent mileage.

Unfortunately one evening in a drunken stupor someone spilled the beans and the gig was up. He bought a locking gas cap but never mentioned gas mileage again.

I'm sure he drives a Prius today…
