The current for the headlights does not pass through the rheostat. If it's miswired so that it does, all bets are off. The fact that they worked then quit would have been good information to have to start with.
If you measure for 12v at the gray wire where the blue arrow is, and you have it, then you may have a broken gray wire or a bad ground for the cluster lights. If you don't have it there, it's either the switch or no voltage to it.
You can see in the diagram the small 3a fuse in the headlight switch. We discussed that in an earlier thread of yours, you said you changed it and still no inst lights. Is that still the case? I asked you the to measure the voltage on both sides of that fuse and you said you didn't have a meter. Is that still the case also? You can buy a small multimeter at Harbor Freight for about $7 and sometimes they give them away with any purchase.
