[C1] Convertible top material

Convertible top material
My 62’ two top white/red has a white soft top. I plan on changing it to a black top. Has anyone used a Stayfast canvas top rather than the original vinyl material.
Thanks

Mike Coletta put mine on, NO other way to go on a non-judged car IMO; luxurious, wears like iron and never shrinks when stored for months:
Make sure to buy and install the "footman" straps!

I switched to a stayfast top about a year ago, after a rip in a 3-year old AK Vinyl top.
Getting the top made and installed was quite an ordeal (all due to the Robbins top reseller order system being screwed up, there is a thread here about it).
My new top is made by Robbins.. I love the Stayfast.. Looks better, folds easier, and wears better.. and won't rip easily.
Stayfast is available in white if you want to stay white....

I have a black stayfast top--I went with that because I prefer the hardtop installed most of the time, and there are fewer worries about shrinkage with the soft top folded.
Also, if you have a judged car (I don't) and it has two tops, you can just present it with the hardtop.

I got mine from Al Knoch (at the NCRS Regional in Kissimmee FL) a number of years ago. Can't find it on his current website though, so you may want to call and inquire.

C1 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
I would contact member SDVette as there was a long thread about it when he did it. Every top manufacturer will tell you that true white (not beige that they all offer) is not available. He did all of the leg work need to get it done.

Drifting
I got involved in the prior thread which was started late last summer. I was looking for a '"white" Stayfast top for my 59 Snowcrest white car. I found a lot of confusion among the manufacturers and re-sellers. The "white" goes by various names and at that time was available only for certain years, but the websites were confusing because they were not consistent with what colors went with which years. Further, some "Stayfast" material upon further investigation of the web sites wasn't. So my suggestion is as FTF said above, before you plunk down $500 for a top, talk to a live person, be very explicit as to what you want ie "oyster white (or whatever color), for a 1959 made from Stayfast material", that way if it's not what you ordered you can send it back. Also if you can, get a sample of the material/color you want. I got a sample of the "Oyster white" (more like an ivory color) and it matches very well with my Snowcrest White car. I haven't purchased the top yet, ran into the winter and am now in the middle of installing the power top option.
Also, if you plan on installing the top yourself, read the prior threads on the subject, the top frame must be adjusted correctly or the top will not fit rightt.

its from Al Knock and includes pads and straps.
i will sell it for 225.00 and is still in the box.
I had a trim shop for many years and Al Knock is the only top that fits correctly, In my opinion.

Clearly not installing this myself
Car is going to Kevin MacKay’s shop in Valley Stream, NY in June after the Bloomington events.
A few tweaks are needed to hopefully make it one of the very best.
Certainly doesn’t drive like my R8 but it sure is pretty.

I agree with the above advise.. try to talk to someone who KNOWS the details of this before you place an order... at whichever supplier you choose.
