Side Seat Chrome
Has anyone bought aftermarket side seat chrome (hockey sticks)? I took my 4, from the 65, to the chrome shop and he quoted a crazy price to rechrome them. My concern is that the aftermarket are cheap and don't look correct.... My usual concern with aftermarket.
Thanks for any and all help!
Dex.

There are US made seat side chrome in 63-64, 65-66 and 67 versions, that sell for about $225 a set, and are very high quality. There are also foreign made ones that sell for around $185, and though the quality is decent, they are more of a generic part for all 63-66's.

The foreign ones are crap and have a hole cut out for a seat lever which my 65 does not have. I returned them and bought the us made ones.

If the chrome shop does triple plated show chrome, and you have seen their work, then you have your answer. $400 seems kinda high, but what isn't in this hobby?$400, which might not be terrible but he went up $100 in just a couple months.
Than just add $180 for shipping cost there and back to your home. Paragon sells reproductions for $180. But it is a hobby and only you will know if it is an original or not.... Not something they ask at re-sale.

It was triple plate but he doesn't take it any dings or rust spots. He just sands them and triple plate them. And I agree, everything is expensive with this hobby.

400$ is crazy money. That has to be one of the easier parts to buff and plate. Triple plate is a racket. They all triple plate using different metal. Dan's plating in TN has the best prices. I had 2 plated there 2 years ago and the cost was under $100.00

I guess what got me is that he wanted $300 just a few months back but he was in a bad mood yesterday so maybe that is why he jumped the price. Oh well.

I agree with you to check a few other shops out.
I would still wish to have originals restored though. I have yet to experience a reproduction item that has lived up to the quality of original. I'm sure there is, but I just haven't experienced it.
