Great! Now all we need is all the SAE papers for the rest of the GM carlines and all the Ford and Chrysler carlines that offset the engines.

Do you have another posting about the car? What happened to the heads, intake and other parts of the engine? What are you plans?

I think the offset to the right was more of a political issue. JFK was President during the production of the C2. The engine location was a way to counterbalance the liberal agenda set forth by his administration....

Yep, he was referring to a C4,

I'm curious as to why he referenced the C4 as an example, given that the C2/C3 models had done the offset engine position decades before the C4.

I'm inclined to believe the primary reason for the offset position was for additional footwell room (as mentioned by others here). If the C4 group were that obsessed about excess weight on the left side (which there is) that they would go to all the effort to move the engine and transmission to the right to reduce this problem, I would expect that they would similarly have put a bit of effort into trying to package the battery in any other location but right in front of the driver's feet.

The battery on a C2 is in front of the passenger except for models with AC in which case it was put on the driver side. But the AC compressor and hardware was then on the pass side so sort of rebalanced out - if that was their intent.

I'm still inclined to believe it was all driven by the differential pinion location - unless someone tells me that having u-joint operating angles in two different axis is not an issue. I don't know one way or the other if it is.
