Took one of my vetts to a car show the other day in a trailer the road was ruff as hell. When I got home I noticed some rust scale on the trailer floor the frame has no sign of rust on the exterior but when I put my finger in one of the holes in the frame I can feel some scale. What can I do to slow it down?
First determine how extensive it is.....buy an Aardvark goosneck digital camera off Amazon and snake it through the frame and record the video and then decide what to do. If its bad enough it might need repaired, if not too bad the rust can be encapsulated and treated by several methods...
Be careful to look very closely inside those frame rails. If you had the car tied down the normal 4 points, rust coming off like that indicates frame weakness too, due to the flexing.
Can those 6 cans be used when the body is on the frame or iis it too late for application?
Absolutely - I've done it on two cars...one on a lift and one on ramps:
You can coat about 98% of the frame internals - maybe more.... Draw a line about 6" from the end of the spray nozzle with a black Sharpee so you'll know when you're close to withdrawing it from the frame. STOP PRESSING THE BUTTON when you see the mark as the stuff will still flow for a few seconds after you release pressure...
This will keep you from jerking the brass spray tip out and shooting that green, sticky goo all over the place...
There are Youtube videos on the proper technique, but a extending the spray tube into the frame as far as possible and holding the button down while stroking the nozzle back and forth gradually moving closer and closer to the exit is basically it.
