The Muncie is out of my '66 for repair, and project creep has set in. I've decided to pull the engine for possible piston replacement, balancing and to check the cam for possible replacement. (never been happy with the engine post-rebuild).
The last time I pulled the engine, the car continued to rise as the weight was taken off the springs and I wasn't sure I was going to have enough headroom to get the engine out. Is it advisable to restrict the front springs from raising up as the engine is removed? Threaded rod in place of shocks? Is it advantageous to have the extra height in front when re-installing? (I'll be putting the engine/transmission back in as a unit.
After looking at the pictures, I may have jacked the whole front up and took off both front tires. I can’t remember now. I guess sometimers is setting in.
If you are going from the front, you'll actually want the nose down and butt up to get a better angle. It helps, but isn't required. You could take the front wheels off and set the frame down on blocks. Then you'd get zero body movement.
'66 327, 4 spd stock flywheel. Getting ready to pull the engine. Flywheel is secured with ARP bolts. What is the size and do they remove with a 12 point socket?
I'm assuming these were not GM originals. Engine rebuilt about 1500 miles ago. Can they be reused?
Thanks,
Ralph

As I recall the ARP bolts are 3/4" 12 point. They can easily be re-used as long as they weren't grossly overtorqued. Pretty sure 80 ft.lbs. is the torque specified by ARP. If it bothers you to re-use the bolts, new aren't that expensive, but for a mild build such as yours, I'd use them again...
If you reuse the bolts , clean them well , wash with Acetone or Lacquer thinner and use blue Loctite. Some people use red, just makes it harder to remove next time.
