Hello all,
I recently joined to be better informed as I plan to list my fathers 1962 . He bought it new and he passed last fall. Trying to absorb the language in order to describe what it is that I’m trying to sell. Lots of knowledgeable folks here.
Welcome!! This is the place to gain great knowledge.
It would be nice if you filled out your profile.
Also post some pictures of the car, we would love to see them.
Joe
Welcome aboard and sorry for your loss. You will find a ton of information here. The details over the life of the car as well as pics will help narrow down a price. I’m sure your pm box will blow up with offers.
Interesting screen name. Any interest in the Civil War?
Pics of the car....lots of them. Check the frame for rust. Pics of all numbers on engine block, carbs, etc...we can decipher them. List the owner history that you know of the car. I went from GA. to Wis. once to look at a '67 Corvette.
Was promised the frame was rust free...it wasn't...cost me $1500 to check it out myself, but saved a lot by not buying it sight unseen.
Hey Noob. Are you saying he bought it brand new so it’s a one owner car? Is it the car in your avatar? One owner car in decent condition is rare. We will definitely need pics.
A lot of $$ value is given to the term ‘numbers matching’, this can apply to everything from the engine to the ash tray. Numbers matching implies that things are original –installed at the factory when built-. The engine is the most important item, it has numbers stamped on the block that will tell if it is original to the car.
You have a very desirable car in that it is ‘one owner’, definitely mention that in the ad. Note any changes your father did to the car, for example, the engine blew up and he put in a new one; or - it was in a small wreck involving the front fender. Originality of all items (transmission, rear end, radiator, seats, body panels, etc, etc) will be of keen interest to buyers.
Photos of engine compartment, interior, etc will help the informed on this site identify any modifications that have happened through the years. Include a photo of the engine stamp pad, it is located on the front passenger side where the head meets the block, there should be a series of numbers stamped in the metal.
As to the 1863sharps, my great-great grandfather was a union lieutenant mustered out of fort Snelling. My nephew has his sword and I retained a 50/70 sharps carbine with the Lawrence conversion.
Yes, will be ready to sell soon. Need to post pics and get more advice on value and will want to get it tuned up, but that won’t take to long.
Please note that it’s a 1962, not a 63, they’re worlds apart.
Looks like we are about 3 hours apart...I get up your way often (Duluth). Let me know if I can help. Would be a great Saturday morning drive with my '62!
