Thanks for the tip, all parts will be inspected and replaced as needed during reassembly.

That's exactly why it cracked. Unless the flange is bolted to the correct fixture, it's almost impossible to install or remove the u-joint without bending it. Most Corvette supply houses have the correct tool.
To the O.P., throw that flange in the trash, new ones are less than $50.

good welding in a structural application should NOT be ground
