Default Brake shoe return spring interference

1961 Front brakes

I searched the forum but could not come up with an answer. When the star wheel brake adjuster is installed there is interference with the tension spring. See photo.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I believe that is normal on a non-self adjuster brake set up. It prevents the star wheel from backing off.
Here is a picture of my 61.

The adjuster and spring are installed correctly. The spring stops the adjustment wheel from turning after adjustment. It also provides the distinct click when the star wheel is turned. I like to put a dab of wheel bearing grease on the star wheel/spring contact area, after cleaning of course.

Yep. You don't have a problem.

Unlike self-adjusting brakes there is no locking latch that prevents pawl movement; that is done by the spring being in contact with the star wheel..
