Has anyone here sold a car on consignment before?
My Dad passed away recently and he had (has) a '67 Ford Mustang and '64 Ford Galaxie 500 XL.
I like the cars, but I am set for cars, and my brothers are too, so we are looking to sell them.
If the cars were at my house, I would list them on Craig's List and call it a day - but they are in my Dad's garage that is quite a distance from me - so transporting them to a consignment shop seems like a viable option for us.
If I sold the cars myself, I would be looking to sell them in the $17k-to-$22k each range. What should I expect a consignor to peg them at?
Honestly we can use a little more info , what type of mustang? What trim Galaxie 500, condition, personally I think your light at 17K. Mustangs are hot and so are the bigger fords .
My friends experience with consignment sales thru Fastlane was that they usually marked your expectation up by $10,000 for their fee. Probably varies on car value though. Have to keep an eye on them however - they play both sides of the sale with an eye on protecting their margin. Sorry about your Dad’s passing.
If you know what you want for the cars, then just set a price that you will take. Let the dealer set his own higher price. I know of a '65 409 Impala SS that the owner wanted $30K for. The dealer listed it for $45K. 50% increase. To protect yourself, just don't let the dealer talk you down. There will be a contract. Read it carefully.

Nice cars. I would just put out a local ad, and let them go for what you feel is reasonable for a quick sale. Get clear titles. Two nice cruisers. GLWS!
1st sorry for your loss. Just a suggestion. Do some research and get an idea what like vehicles have sold for or bid to. You really should have a good idea of what realistic value is. A 10K mark up on a 15K vehicle IMCO is going to be a hard sell. You want to and should be treated fairly and of course not be taken advantaged of.
I'm sorry about your dad. I think my daughter will end up in the same situation your are in. I would also try at first to list an ad and see if you can close a quick sale and save the transport and commissions. You can always consign later. When you sort out what you want to do, send me a pm if you still want to sell the Galaxie XL, I had one in high school except it was a four speed. I am interested, but distance can make it difficult. Make sure what you want to do and get in touch if you want to talk.
Be careful of Just Toys classic cars After they sold my car w a $8.000 commission they kept they reused for a year to pay us. I had the state attorney & their bond co & News stations after them. I told them i could do all that without a attorney . They did not care. Gate way Classics i tried first . They were horrible 78 corvette Last year

Is another possible option to sell the cars on the Bring-A-Trailer auction website?
Most people that buy cars there buy them without visiting the car in person.
Usually lots of detailed pictures are posted for a car (often more than 200 pictures).
And, it is now fairly typical to include two home-made videos (a cold start video and a short driving in the car video).
Obviously, you'd need to take a trip to your Dad's garage to gather all these pictures and videos, but it could be done as a one time trip.
I would suggest finding and joining a Galaxie forum and a vintage Mustang forum and list the cars for sale their. That way you go straight to interested parties and deal directly with enthusiasts who may not always be 100% honest, but I would say in general are far more so than the general public at large.
I agree with Dan above, the mustang with those GT wheels, gold pinstripe and gold stripes on the hood could be a factory special addition, Maybe, the 390 Galaxie XL 500 on the other hand is sweet and I think it would command a higher price than what you originally quoted, both look like well cared for cars.
