I thought the AO Smith bodies did not have the pimple, just St. Louis bodies.
ALL midyear assembly-line upper surround panels had the "pimple" in the drain trough; there was only one steam-heated (steel) mold, at MFG in Ashtabula, and that plant fed the Body Shops at both St. Louis and A.O. Smith-Ionia. They both got the same panel from the same mold at MFG.
Photo below shows the high-tech resin measurement/dispensing operation at MFG while preparing the midyear upper surround mold for closure.
The dot had its own thread a while back, long and distinguished, a bit over the top, but befitting one of the few characteristics found on every C2. Now, there are those who claim that certain runs of cars did not have these dots, but those are likely the same guys who swear there were 67 327 cars with big block hoods. maybe did just a bit too much blotter acid...

I have one on my '63,'65s,'66 and '67. I also do not have one on a couple of my cars. But I know for a fact that some young guy that looks a lot like me during restoration sanded that pimple off

In my defense, I did search for “dimple” before I posted the question; however, I did not search for “zit” or “dot”.
And it's there on my factory paint 64. so, that settles it. They all had it when new. You could call it a mole, or a beauty mark. To remove it would be sacrilege.
You wouldn't suggest she remove hers, would you?
