Without the original differential, is there a way to tell which coded differential came with a 1965 Corvette Coupe? The one shown in the pics is a big block differential. Small block L79 327 in3/350 hp, 4-Spd, Posi, and A/C with VIN: 194375S111259. Block 3782870, Holley Carb R2818A/3849804, Distributor 1111087, Alternator 1100694. With a 111259 production sequence, manufactured in Feb-Mar 1965 with ending vehicle 113936.
The only 1965 usage of the 694 alternator was a small-block with A/C. 300hp's with A/C were available with 3.36 and 3.08 axles, and 350hp/365hp engines with A/C came with 3.70 axles and had options for 3.08, 3.36, 3.55, 4.11, and 4.56:1. If the transmission still has the original plastic speedo DRIVEN gear, that could tell you the original axle ratio.

Although shown in the pic taken in 2006 with a big block hood, my '65 is a small block 327 with a 694 alternator and A/C. Previous owners bastardized the car, including replacing both the small block engine and differential with big block ones as well as replacing the seats with 1982 ones.
Thanks for the info. By the way, where specifically is the speedo driven gear located?
In the transmission at the end of the speedo cable.
With over 10 years of selling classic auto parts, I thought so. Just wanted to make sure. Unfortunately, the original speedo cable was replaced. Thank you.
By finding the speedo driven gear, how can one tell what the what the rear axle code is? Pics show a speedo I once bought. I assume you are referring to the white gear just behind the speedo face? If not, is the gear attached to the cable end which is connected to the transmission? Please post an example pic.
