To me... as far as resale goes. I think a total color change hurts more than one that stays in the family... so to speak. So, If I was buying, If the trim tag said it was blue, and the car was painted black, that would be more of a hit to me than a Riverside Red tagged car being Torch Red. The only time I think I'd know the difference is when I was parked next to a "Real" Riverside Red car at a cars and coffee event.
But, as was said several posts up, even two/three "Riverside Red" cars sitting next to each other can look different depending on prep/primer/sealer... etc etc.
If it a NOM the color change really does not hurt the value. If it’s a born with engine car then value is effected. But your paying the tab so pick what you like
I think it hurts the value either way, just not as much as when the car has an original drivetrain.
Having a color just wrong enough to notice it would bug me, but if you prefer the color, it’s your call.

Let your wallet follow your heart on this one.
I've felt this way forever, as well. It can be on either side of the spectrum from the original shade, but if the tag says red, blue, yellow, or green, and the car is a shade of those, it's much better to me than a red car with a blue tag, etc. Don't know if it makes any difference in the real world, but to me, a car painted a different shade from the original tag but the same color pretty much gets a pass. Especially if it is a nicer color!!
Some of you guys must be half colorblind :-), the difference between Riverside red and Rally red is huge to me, of course I’m a bit of an artist. Riverside red reminds me of fuel injected split windows, Rally red reminds me of big blocks and side pipes. Love them all
Pick any red you want. You are not changing the color, but choosing a different shade of red. Pick a 2020 corvette red, it doesn't matter.
Cant agree. It is a different color. Id rather have a car with blue paint and a red tag, than a red tag and a completely different red paint. But Im OCD.
Thank you. It is obviously over-restored and I hear a constant barrage of complaints from the local NCRS folks. I understand what they are saying, but my intent was to build the car that GM should have built and not the one that they did build. Of course, the factory was building a mass production car and they did not have the luxury of an old man with lots of time on his hands.
…… paint it the color YOU want to see when you look at it.
Well, my perspective is, don’t modify/revise the “Mona Lisa”, grow to appreciate it for what it is, a magnificent representation of the period in which it was created, a work of art. But I’m a bit of a romantic.
