I bought a Borgeson power steering unit for my 67 L79 four years ago. I don’t notice any difference. Perhaps that is because it is still in the cardboard shipping box? I read all of the material and thought I could do it. But I think I can do a lot of things, right up to the time that my body screams “NO”! No fool like an old fool.
where I’m at in north central Wisconsin, the only local mechanic is Bubba. Now Bubba is a great guy. He is superb at putting shocks on your Impala, or tuning up your Roadmaster. I’m just nervous having him under my C2.
anyone got any recommendations for installing my Borgeson?
I took mine to a local Chevy dealer and asked for the most experienced mechanic. Installed in 1 day and it is one of the best modifications I made..
Good luck
No racetrack nearby. The local Chevy dealer has changed hands three times in the past five years and appears to be on thin ice as far as remaining open for long.
Don't know how mechanical skill you are but they are not very difficult to put in. You just have to shorten the shaft a few inches which I believe on your year car the steering shaft can be compressed.

It can be shortened. The problem is that I don't have a lift and at 73, working on a creeper for an extended time in an unheated garage is a pretty job tough to do.
If you do install it, buy the frame reinforcement before beginning. It’s not a bad job to do but a helper is a big bonus.
Hey dkleather can you elaborate on the frame reinforcement you mentioned? Coincidentally i just ordered my borgeson this morning but first I’ve heard about the frame reinforcement.

Stock box and rag joint on the left, Borgeson box and rag joint in the middle, Ridetech brace on the right.
Here it is installed. It sandwiches the frame using the three steering box mounting bolts to clamp the frame and two of the steering box cover bolts to then brace the box.
The borgeson unit is a nice addition but it does have one problem and that is the lightness of the steering. In other words it works to good. Takes NO effort to turn wheel. You might think great, that’s what I want but I do not think you will want it as light as it will be. You will almost likely have to install a different pressure valve in pump to add a little more effort to the turning. Do some searches and you will find some threads that can explain it better then I can.
Factoid shows the reinforcement in his picture and it will help greatly in stiffening the frame where the steering box bolts up. I also agree that the steering will be very easy, perhaps too much for your liking but that can be fixed with an internal kit Borgeson offers for the pump or a valve you can buy. You will also need another additional pulley on the crank. I also bought a different pulley for the pump since the one Borgeson sends is for a BB. Dave
Where do you live in Wisconsin? I have a second home in the west-central part of the State. I know some very good mechanics. PM me if you are interested.
