BUBBA TIME on the rag top

...man, is that ugly :U ...i want a black top and wonder if anyone could suggest or has used a black dye that, first, will look good and will last a "decent" amount of time.....since i rarely drive the car with the top up, sun fade should not be a major problem......even when i'm driving the car in the summer, i keep thinking about that ugly white top folded down behind me :mad
advice? (other than for me to take my own advice and "do it correctly" :D)

My car had a black top on it 1 small tiney tear and a frosted back window.I never had the top up I always had the top down I mean it was stored year round with the top down. The only time I put it up was returning from a late night car cruise with my daughter she was cold with the top down.Anyways beside the cost of doing a top the other down side I found is that I keep the top up.As soon as I am done driving I put the top back up and leave the car in the sun to eliminate any and all wrinkles.
I have a freind who I used to make fun of because he never put his top down,He did not want to wrinckle it and I have become him in away not wanting the wrinkles.
I used an al knoch top and had a fellow install it for 350.00 including repaining the frame once the top material was off.If my car was not restored to NCRS specs I would have installed a hartz canvas style top like the one on my C5 .The top on the C5 is always down in top down weather (IT DOES NOT SHOW THE WRINKLES)
If I had your money I would throw mine away.
Seriously, I think you are probably best either cleaning the one you have or getting a new one. Personally, I think the combination of blue with a white top looks pretty good.
For a cleaner, I would try OxyClean. I used it on a patio umbrella that had been left out for most of the winter (dont ask). It was white and beige and came out very good. It actually got brighter as it got more sun. May be worth a try.

....Ih2lose - yeah, you're right.....i do like the idea of the canvas top, pls. send me your recommendations on where to get one.............i was going to pull the entire rag top mechanism, strip it and do a re-paint....may just go for a new top and try it myself...at that point, i'll have a decent quality vinyl top for sale
I am still looking for a standard bore 942 block with a late 65 casting date plus a starter and alternator and maybe a set of steel wheels. That should do it. I recently sold my extra set of steel wheels to a very good friend who needed them for NCRS judging -- Still kicking myself in the butt for parting with them. They were like brand new. Sold them for exactly what i paid for them. Problem is, I dont want to have to take out a mortgage to pay for all the stuff I need. Good thing I have an understanding wife.
