A friend and I were out cruising yesterday, he was in front with his 61 and me in my 59 and I saw smoke coming out from under his car on the drivers side. Turned out it was steam, he pulled over and found this. It was just laying on the frame. Engine temp was already pegged at 220. Crank looked okay. Ended our little cruise!
Judging by the opened up keyway (probably what caused the split) it was loose on the crank for a while. Almost certain the crank is now undersize. When I rebuilt my engine I figured "what the hey" and drilled out the crank for a front bolt. I had all the tooling and didn't like the idea of pounding on the balancer in the end.

I asked him if it had a bolt and he said the crank had a threaded hole. I didn’t see it!
