Rear of the case; driver's side I think (I'd have to check).

Most frequently, it is stamped on the right rear of the maincase, near the stamped date code (which begins with a P). I have been building/repairing Muncies for about 35yrs and I have seen VINs stamped in numerous locations, including on the top, front of the case.

All '67 Corvette Muncies have both the Muncie "P"-code (date code) and the St. Louis VIN derivative stamped vertically on the raised rib at the rear of the main case on the passenger side, just forward of the joint line to the rear bearing retainer.

1967 and earlier corvettes with muncie 4-speeds had the V.I.N. stamped on the driverside rear vertical flange of the maincase (to the rear of the side cover). The V.I.N. moved to the passenger side in the 1968 model year when that flange was increased in width from 1/2" to 1". Hope this helps--Crash

Nope - only Corvette T-10's (to mid-'63) and some '64 Muncies have the VIN stamped on the driver's side, rearward of the side cover - from '65 on, it's always been on the passenger side of a Muncie, adjacent to the "P"-code, or, very rarely, on the top of the case. :yesnod:

Went out to my warehouse with 100+ muncie cores transmissions and 200+ main cases and found 5 good examples of 1967 and earlier corvette V.I.N. stamps all on the driverside 1967--P7E26--7S120782--010 maincase
1966--P0212--6S114922--010 maincase
1965--P1214---S105492--325 maincase
1964--P1021---4108000--325 maincase
1963--P0709---3119558--704 maincase
Hope this helps--Crash

Yup, VIN derivative stamp on mid-year Corvettes is on the driver's side - I was fixated on the Muncie "P"-code, not the VIN; 1st-Gen Camaros all had the VIN derivative on the pass. side, so did the St. Louis passenger car plant and almost all other GM assembly plants. Don't know why St. Louis-Corvette put it on the driver's side - Engineering direction was to put it adjacent to the Muncie code, but Corvette ignored it.

Is the VIN on the rear flange situated so it can be correctly read from the rear or the front of the car? Although the picture is not my real VIN, is the placement correct?

A 14 year old thread but whatever, here is my 67 trans when I took it out years ago.
