Alternator tested OK.

Removed my Wells solid state voltage regulator and after cleaning the points put my old Delco regulator on.

No battery drain.

Thanks to all of you for your advice.

That scenario doesn't speak very highly for the Wells solid state regulator. I would never get one over the stock regulator.

The electronic regulators made for use with GM & Mopar alternators are generally pretty good, I've seen far more failures with mechanical units than the solid state variety. Electronic regulators do not survive polarity reversals, so watch your jumper cables!

Absolutely. I run nothing but the Wells regulators and have since 2015 and have built several undetectable conversions using the original housing and base - no failures. There is no way a "vibrating points" regulator that may make/break contacts up to 120 times/second via its moving parts is more reliable than solid state switching and regulation.
