Power vent experience
This vent design is really quite comical but maybe worth tweeking for circulation.
The control is a push/pull cable. Mines been clipped off so I'm thinking about discarding it completely. OR, relocate the control to behind the drivers seat.
The outlet is about 1" dia. Might be worth opening the hole a bit more.
The fan cover has no defined inlet with the exception of gaps in the carpet panels. Maybe fab a nice grill.
The control includes a three speed fan selection. This might be better served as a threeway switch under the instrument panel.
Hoping that some of you have tried to make this option workable, rather than just gluing carpet over the top.
Mine is all intact, but the cable is frozen. I understand the wiring was incorrect for the fan speed from the factory, but not sure if that is true. It may just have been drawn incorrectly on the wiring diagram.
Here is some info I pulled together when I r and r'd the rear blower in our 65. I hung the cable up for days and just kept running PB Blaster and Kroil through it til it freed up. Still works but that cable needs a pretty good tug.
I always wondered what the Chevy engineers were thinking, since the venting is so ineffective. At some point, someone should have said, "Is this thing really worth it?"

Mine still works as original and I am surprised at how much air comes out of the outside vent.

Hope this is of some use.

My New To Me 65 coupe .......Been checking out all the features and could not immediately figure out what the center cable was for......worked it a few times ( battery was disconnected) and a friend standing by the drivers door said he heard a noise behind driver seat and voila! Found the blower etc. It still works! Only 88k on my car but this is interesting. Agree that it should have had some kind of grille or mesh there.
Anyway thanks for posting the PDF as there is little in the supplement to identify it is there.
I think I may have some vent ***** mounted wrong under the dash. I assume left vent, left side and right vent, right side with the rear vent in the middle. Correct?

The vent control cable is on the left side of the steering column and the left vent cable is next to it.

Today was an "ah-haa" day when I looked down the driver side B pillar vents and realized the blower air goes out these vents rather than the grommet in the wheel well.
Short answer, it does not work great and it was EXPENSIVE for GM to add, so they eliminated it in 66. BUT many folks that have 64-65 cars that were so originally equipped (like myself) have chosen to include and restore this item for better or worse. Your car, your choice, but if you decide to keep it, put it back to stock and don't try to reengineer it. You can get a repro cable and fix it if that's what you want. Here's mine which I did extensive work on including modifying the switch to operate with much less force. It sounds pretty cool from the outside when it's running though........
