I signed up for that crap years ago when my kids made me a "Facebook page." Soon enough all kinds of creeps I knew and forgot began saying hello and happy birthday and remember when. It was as if every ashtray and trash can I'd ever used had been dumped out at my feet.
I have a friend who encourages me to use Facebook auto groups. Sorry, I want less than nothing to do with it or the people who have made it their home. It is a vile cesspool that undermines society by bringing its squalid turpitude to the surface, where it obscures everything true and valuable.
Why would you give any more clicks to pad the wallet of Facebook founders by even being a member - I never have.?
I agree I would not want to give that money grubber any money but on Facebook marketplace I recently bought a 63 split window Coupe that you couldn’t buy a door for what I paid for the whole car. Sometimes you just never know! I would have bet everything I own that it was a scam but that scam is now sitting in my garage with the title in my name.
The one and only reason to have a Facebook account is for the Marketplace. I have found and have sold things in a matter of hours, it is amazing the volume and traffic an ad will get.
I answered one question on one of those Corvette groups. Never again, simply not worth it D-Bags all over and simply wrong information being handed out.
I first signed up when I was still working and it was an extremely useful resource for working cases and researching people and businesses. I had an old school Supervisor who scoffed at using fb and after I showed him what I was doing with it, he had all the officers create one. All agencies routinely use it now. Also, so many businesses use it instead of a website now, thats a lost resource.
As far as the Corvette groups go, there some serious value in some of the parts and cars you stumble across in Marketplace. You can also sell stuff you might not otherwise.
However, the groups are 100% worthless for discussion or any other reason. All misinformed idiots who want to start arguments, give out wildly incorrect info or make fun of other people’s cars, particularly for sale.
I have 2 facebook Pages (not Groups- Pages allow you 100% control) for a couple of serious non-Corvette interests I have. Neither is connected to my name, are very useful and are free.
facebook isnt any different than those scary “cell phone” thingies or that spooky place called “Off Topic.” If you simply use it as the tool it is, its valuable. And there isnt one thing I will ever do with facebook that will affect a billionaire like Zuckerberg’s bottom line$, one way or another.
I would like to see it fold or be replaced with viable competition because of the political censorship, but while its up and free Ill take the useage.

Not me. Not interested in side benefits of an institution hell bent on being an arbiter of free speech. Free speech is far more valuable than a good deal on a rear view mirror.

It's called facebook.
Fantastic show - and you may be right about the connection!
Some places - especially businesses - make their site available to anyone. And I know there are many...pages?...sites? which sound quite interesting - there's one I've hear of specifically about restoring old railroad trucks, which my '66 3/4 ton is. On a few occasions I have been tempted to sign up but I always decide there is too much drama, too much BS and too little privacy, and I always end up saying I can continue to get along without it. .
I looked up my Corvette selling dealers town on facebook-joined the page, and got things from the dealer back in the 60's for my 63 from people in the town/city that had it.
You dont have to be friends with anybody or give your correct info You control the info so dont give it. Use it for your purposes.
I enjoy how someone will ask a technical question about a problem that they might be experiencing and several of the responses will be a photo of their own car with the caption "Here's mine:'.

I did the same with my 63. Got an original dealers emblem from the current owner of the selling dealership .photos of the dealership in the 60s and other dealer goodies - no Facebook needed.
And if you think you’re outsmarting big tech’s data harvesting and you are in control I can tell you as an IT security consultant of many decades. you’re not.
