Outside door handle button has fallen inside the door, is there a spring and clip? I just bought the car and it was like this, cant find any more bits in the bottom of the door.

There is a spring that holds tension on the lever at the back of the door handle inside the door. The only way for that lever to come out is to turn it 90 degrees. it sounds like the part of the door handle that holds the lever in place is worn out or broken. Bob
Note that in the AIM page shown above, the placement of the spring and washers on the button lever rod are not correct.
The attached document by Rich Mozzetta lays out the details of the assembly.
Hope this helps.

When I was a kid, about 10-11 years old, I was messing around with the passenger door handle of my dad's '61, and "ker-plop", the button fell in.
My dad was pretty angry with me... but he never did fix it (he did not drive the car regularly back then).
Fast forward 45 years.. I inherited the car after my dad passed away..
As I started to sort/clean/refurb the car, I remembered the door button falling in.
When I opened up the door, all the parts were in there.. and I put them back after 45 years!
