Default Bad spindle support?

I think I am in trouble.
I just removed the lower bushing from the spindle support on my 60 and it came out too easily. Popped loose at about 40 pounds and turned out loosely with my fingers. Lots of in and out slop on the threads after a turn or two. The new bushing is even looser in the support. It fingered in sloppy and did tighten but I haven't really laid into it with torque yet. I am pretty sure these should thread in like the bushings in the a arms, tight correct? So, if it is junk is there a fix? Used ones are damn spendy and who knows if they are any better. An over size O.D bushing would be nice but I don't think that exists. If anybody, (Tom???), knows of a fix I am eager to try it. Left to my own devices I can think of some wild third world type fixes like..copious amounts of red Loctite, made for steel epoxies, Shim stock, tack weld it in place. Don't laugh, I am desperate.
Thanks,
Scott

Same thing on one of mine when it needed to be replaced. Tack weld or two did the job

Torque the new bushing it at around 150 ft-lbs, it will stay put. You can de-grease it and use red loctite if you are paranoid.

Thanks for you reply.
It turns out that the king pin hole in the (right only) spindle mount is loose also. So If I can find a better spindle mount maybe the lower hole won't be so worn. The search is on.

ebay. '"49-"54 Chevy spindle support" is what you want. Note there is right and left.

Unless Benrep wants to drop the front on just one side (or replace both sides and drop it), don't use 53/54 spindle supports.
49-52 spndle supports are the same as the C1, where as the 53/54 supports will drop the front end 3/4" to 1".

Yes, look at that pic tom parsons (DZAuto) posted in another thread yesterday about this subject and print it out. Post #7:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-anywhere.html

Use it as a visual ref when looking at replacement supports to tell the diff.

Wow, I just bought two on eBay. Both claim to be NOS with tags. We'll see. They look like hell all dirty and rusty, but who knows, the sellers have good ratings and lots of sales. It's funny, the pairs that list for corvette go for $400.00 a pair and up used! I got both of these for passenger cars, for under $100.00 each supposedly new. If true it will be damned exciting. I should go look for NOS a-arm bushings now!

Thanks for all the good input it really helps.

Your problem might have been the aftermarket bushing if that is what you had in there, not your original part. They are not making these parts to GM specs . I had some problems like that when I originally rebuilt my front end . I just bought a complete low miles 51 chevy front end from a local guy for my 57 and when I took it apart I could see a huge difference in quality with the GM parts . Everything turned out very smooth and the threads on the aftermarket kit that i originally bought would tighten in spots as you turned them, so i would suspect that the threads on your aftermarket part were undersize . I would not throw your original part out just yet.
