Unfortunately as time passes, famous dates in America's history receive less and less media attention. Pearl Harbor and D Day in particular.
On the other hand Memorial Day thankfully still gets a lot of attention. My only concern is it for the right reason? Or is it because it's the "unofficial" start of summer?
A heart felt thank you for all that served and those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.
God bless them all and please God bless America as we need him now as much as ever.

On such a somber holiday I like to focus on the good that was done by those willing to sacrifice their one God given blessing Life for all of us to live free. K. Harris is an ignorant selfish Marxist who should kiss this countries dirt for where she is at. I still can't believe she will be president . She is almost as big an idiot as A hole C. God Bless our Country.
Politicians are "ACTORS"!!! Keeping the people happy is the job they are given by their party. When was the last time an elected politician was tried and convicted of a crime after obtaining office for not living up to their promises? The last president held responsible was Nixon, but not for his attack upon DEMOCRACY, but only attack of the Democrat Party.
The boys that "GAVE ALL" for their country were told they were fighting for democracy and gave no less than JFK, RFK, MLK, the kids at Kent State and more people that believed in DEMOCRACY.
While we argue about an actor that did not do their part to our satisfaction, every last bit of DEMOCRACY is being lost and we no longer have compliance to the constitution on which this nation was founded. "We the People", and "Liberty and Justice for ALL" are words no longer respected nor enforced by the "ACTORS" of "CAPITALISUM", but rather used against the people to promote the economic growth of the rich and depression of the lower and middle classes.
Tomorrow is the day I will say prayers for those that died believing they were fighting for 'DEMOCRACY', especially those that died in Vietnam as I was there, but no less for those that fought in every war back to the revolutionary war.
So while you are drinking your favorite beverage and eating barbeque from the grille, celebrating the extra day off from work, etc. give a little thought to those spouses and children that were condemned by the 'ACTORS" to live and struggle without their husband, wife, or son for the rest of their life due to the loss of their soldier serving for DEMOCRACY. Is it not amazing that there are very few "ACTORS" that served in a combat zone?
Point your finger at Harris and there are three fingers pointing back at you for your failure to serve.
My prayers for the spouses and children of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for DEMOCRACY. Ron
My Uncle was one of those that landed at Normandy and made it home, he had the pleasure of having to make a few of those incredibly dangerous landings and was lucky enough to come home. My Dad volunteered to go in early at 17 because he wanted to get in there and help, he was done with basic and on a ship headed overseas when the War Ended. There is a neighborhood about a mile from me where every street is named after those we lost in our small town in WW2. The town was probably under 1,000 people back then and there were many son's lost. That generation was far tougher than we can imagine and exposed to so many harsh realities. God Bless them and thanks for all that served.
I was in Germany and visited a park on a hill overlooking a large farming area, in the park there was a Shrine built to commemorate those they had lost. This was a small farming area and I bet there were several hundred names on the shrine. They felt the loss also. Driving through Germany with my son I noted it was strange because we would see buildings several hundred years old and beautiful next to much newer ugly construction. I pointed this out to my son and he basically said, Dad, Duh, the newer stuff was all built on areas leveled by the war.
I had the good fortune to visit the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten a few years ago and learned how the Dutch honor the Americans that liberated them. Each grave is adopted and taken care of, mostly by local Dutch families. It is so important to their culture there is a waiting list to adopt a grave. The gentleman that took us there was 8 years old when the ****'s invaded. He talked about how they took his bicycle and all the food in the house. In Mastrict they did the same to every house and stripped the school too. He was still bitter about the war but full of pride that he was able to learn English by working in the American encampment after the liberation.
He took us to his adopted grave, came to attention, saluted and put a flower on the grave. To see this kind of heartfelt gratitude and dedication to his liberators, the American soldier, was a moving experience. I have gone to many Memorial Day events here in America and there is certainly a genuine level of honor and appreciation for our Military. However it felt so much deeper when hearing from someone that had experienced the horrors of war and also the joy and appreciation for the American Military that liberated them and gave them hope and freedom. That they still feel that way so many years after the war is impressive indeed. God Bless America and all those that serve and protect.
RIP and honor my personal war hero's, my Uncles that all made it home, Navy - Charles, Paul, Bud, and (Coozy who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor) and Uncle Chester - Army (wounded crossing the river near Luxembourg). Their wives should not go without being honored too for their strength and resolve to continue to hold our families close in those troubled times. All were so important to me in my growing years.
Memorial Day is a very special day to those in the Netherlands.
51 years ago today My River Division 515 turned our PBR's over to the South Vietnamese Navy. I then finished out my tour as the engineman on a Strike Assault Boat . 24' long aluminum hull and crew of 4 with two 427 Chevy BB's in them. Hard to believe it's been that long ago. Glad the guys coming home today get the thanks and recognition they deserve unlike what we received when we returned home. One good thing about my year in Vietnam was saving enough money so that in Jan 1972 I bought my 66 coupe. Still have it today !! ---------------------------Ken Riv Div 515/Stabron 20 October 1969 - October 1970.

Welcome Home! I was with the 25th Inf Div in 1970 and our 7/11 105 mm Arty Battalion was at Tay Ninh Combat Base, 65 miles NW of Saigon. One day our commo Sgt grabbed me to ride shotgun out to Ben Keo to the Navy Advanced Tactical Support Base. All of our artillery ammo came up the Vam Co Dong river to this ATSB from Saigon area. We had to change out a radio on a PBR boat. As I recall the PBR boats had twin Gm diesel engines with twin Jacuzzi jet outlets. They also had some impressive armaments including twin 50 cal on a turret, M60 mounted in rear along with a grenade launcher. I also recall seeing the most crude set of home made water skis in a small utility boat! Our C Battery had 2 105 howitzers mounted on a Navy barge and would travel up and down the Vam Co Dong. Go Navy!
RIP to Sam Young a son of the Bronx, NY who gave all in WW 1 at the Battle of the Somme in France and is buried in the American cemetery there. Our local American Legion Hall is named in his honor
