Default Help, C2 convert

Need help, had my c2 body off restored. Before restoration doors fit and closed good. Car never wrecked all original body panels. Passenger door OK, drivers door needs to be raised at rear or quarter panel to high. Striker on B jam all the way up. I am thinking shims are not correct but I don't know where to start checking. Car is all together, any help would be appreciated or the name of someone in the Orlando area that could help.

Body off restorations are expensive. I think whoever you paid to restore it should be be obligated to and willing to make any of the needed adjustments.

Are you sure the body shams are back to the way they were before it was removed from the frame? Convertibles are very tricky with the shims in the door jam.

Year of car and coupe or convertible would help answer this since they have different mounting points. The striker is adjustable. How many shims do you now have at the #4 body mount? (That’s the one behind the back wheel). Dave

1967 Convertible, striker is all the way to top. When the door is at rest before engaging with striker it is low. When door is latched it is forced upward. I don't know anything about shims, that is what i'am trying learn about. I did not do the work , only payed .

OK, here is my two cents. Buy a few door shims so you have them on hand. They are cheap enough. Remove the door panel. Remove the striker. When removing the striker loosen all 3 screws, Then remove two screws, swing the striker out of the way, reinstall one of the screws on the striker backing plate, then remove the striker. You should have one screw still in place, this keeps the striker plate from moving into a position where you will hav trouble lining it up for reinstallation. Now this will take two people. Loosen all of the hinge screws except two, one on top and one on the botton hinge. The two you should leave tight should be accessible when the door is closed. Have someone on the outside hold the door closed and in place, Loosen the last two screws. The person on the outside manipulates the door until it is in the exact correct position with the body lines lined up and the door pressed closed. Tighten the two bolts on the hinge. This will hold it in place. Now look at the front edge. It it is in too far add shims under the appropriate hinge until it is flush, if out remove shims,. Readjust the door as above until it is correct in the opening. Do not let the door edges touch the body or you will damage the paint and wreck the glass. Reinstall the striker and adjust it. Using modeling clay is a big help to see where the striker is in relation to the latch. The shims only do the door in and out in relation to the body, it does not sound like your problem here. The hinge where it is attached to the door is on slots. That is what needs to be adjusted. Where the hinge bolts to the body is not adjustable. as a side note check for play in the hinge pins first, if the hinges are worn out the door will not line up and this adjustment procedure will not help you out.

Thanks for the help, I'll remove door panel and proceed. I have striker out, marked location with tape, hinge pins are OK.
