I tried all the quick fixes and none worked for very long. As soon as someone bumps the mirror you’re back to square one. The only good fix, IMO, is to disassemble the mirror and drill out the rivets that holds the steel plate against the ball. I laid it across an open vise and gave it a good wack with a hammer to put more of a bend in the plate which puts more pressure against the ball, then I roughed up the plastic ball with coarse sandpaper and reattached the plate with sheet metal screws and lock tight. It’s hard to adjust now but it stays in place.
