side view mirror
A spot or two of super glue in the ball joint, work the mirror around in a couple of circles, then adjust to your liking. Easy fix that lasts a while without taking the mirror apart to get at internals.

If you want to really get into the repair so it does not droop, Dave Z. wrote a great article a while back on how to do the repair. I have attached Dave's how to for your perusal.
Enjoy and good luck with it. C.J.

I used a little blue Loc-Tite. Just a few drops into the ball & socket, adjust it to where you want it. Mine hasn't moved in six years since I did it.
That repair is on a repo mirror. Might not be so hot on an original. I think the Loctite method might be better.

I learned to drive without any outside mirrors. The govt decided I should drive
with a driver outside mirror. Now the govt mandates pass side mirrors. I got so
use to the pass mirror I stuck one on without govt approvel.
I dont mind drilling holes in my 66.

The only lasting fix is in post #3. The others are just bandaids.

Is this typically the reason why they become loose? If the broken peened over rivet is the cause then the Locktite method wouldn't work as the whole assembly would still be moving. I'm thinking that they could also become loose from the ware of years of adjusting. In that case the Locktite method is a good method.
An old timer I know took a snap punch and made marks all around the pivot ball. Turning the mirror to the extreme so the marks didn't show when it was tilted back into it's regular position. That method also worked well.
