I'm looking for a source of as close to original as possible complete wiring harnesses with one main deviation. . . I would like to have upgraded modern fuse box. Is this available without getting a one size fits all harness?
Mark,
I didn’t know such a thing existed. Still not quite an exact fit but very interesting. I’m glad you posted this. It looks to cure a bunch of update issues with the stock harness and allows updates as needed. Have you used one of these yet?
Chris
I haven’t installed one, Chris, but Elwood13 (Chris) has and likes it. I have installed similar harnesses in other cars (non-Corvette) and they were much easier to work with than stock, both due to the length of wire that allows various routing options and the newer design fuse box and connectors providing more reliability and safety.
Don't know how much more updated you want in the way of fuses. The 67 wiring harness has more fuses and also fusible links for more protection. It still uses glass fuses so it may not be even a consideration for your application.
What are you adding that needs more fuses? A/C, radio amplifier, ???
Some have added a small fuse box that ties into the original wiring to feed new accessories. Just an option.
American Autowire has 2 options - an Original and an Upgrade. The upgrade has a newer fusebox, but has several other things that are newer as well. Sounds like you want something in between. They seem well thought of on here, you might contact them and inquire whether they can provide what you want on a custom basis or not.
Actually I'm wanting to stay about as stock as possible on most items on my project creeper. The only added things electrical so far on the car is an added vintage air install and a power antenna. I just feel a bit more comfortable with a newer style fuse box setup. I upgraded the pantera and was thinking on going the same route with my coupe. Also thinking the glass fuses are going to go the way of leaded gas soon as the market for them dwindles away. I'm guessing the easiest route would be to stick with stock.
I should have finished this car 10 years ago.....groan. Getting read to chemical strip the body before welding in the new rockers and rear uprights. Be real glad when this stage is done....
