We're ready to install a Ram 550hp clutch kit with a Ram 24lb flywheel in 64 with 383 sbc and 5 speed tko.
Usin Arp bolts for both there seems a conflict for the PP bolt torque spec. Arp says 45 lb with Ram suggesting about 32 lb. Some on line say 45lb on the pp bolts might lock up the clutch, i don't understand that logic but does anyone have had experience with this situation.
Please share any knowledge for this.
Thanks. Frank

45lb on the bolts might lock up the clutch ????? Seriously ? NOT. no way. I myself would give it 40 with blue locktite or whatever lube ARP sez and move on.

THIS^^^^^ is right on the money. Do this and no worries, period.
I thought ARP bolts were tightened to a stretch?? Or maybe that's only for the rod bolts. I didn't feel comfortable with that myself so when I built my engine for my 72 Porsche 911 I had my shop torque and measure the bolts.

We use all ARP fasteners in our motors, and yes, they say the best for rod bolts is to measure stretch..... With swapping out rod bearing uppers after each pass, we never had time to do it that way..... torque them to 90ft/lbs, and slap the pan back on.....
Thanks all. I think that's why the ultra torque lube under the shoulder to torque to a stretch, right? Makes sense for bearing caps and flywheel , pp plate just : gut-n-tight, lol, with lock washers (to a point, with loctite)
Worked on cars all my life but the idea of measuring the stretch of a bolt was to much. Soo when I was building a new engine for my 72 Porsche 911 I took the engine to the race shop that was helping me and Mike did the torque/stretch on the ARP rod bolts.
