I'm looking for the "best" front end rebuild kit for my '64 coupe. From what I can gather it seems the general concensus is to use original type rubber bushings. Moog seems to be the recommended supplier. The Moog kit is $572, which is about double other no name kits I've googled. Is Moog the way to go even though double the price? Thanks
You can't go wrong with Moog. If you use Moog, you, most likely, will never have to replace the components again. Jerry
I see kits out there from Federal Mogul for $299. They state that Moog owns Federal Mogul and the kits are the same but come in plain boxes instead of Moog boxes.....True? Anyone know if they're the same at quite a savings?
Unless the "kits" changed over the years most were made up of most or all imported parts.MOOG may now be making parts off shore too but probably are still following ISO protocol and making good parts. About 15 years ago some vendor got caught selling kits that were supposed to be "white box" MOOG and they were not even close. MOOG was carried by many local parts stores, not so much the chains, but the old mom and pops or places like Rock Auto. Get the best, they always cost more.
Just about a year ago, I was replacing the front suspension and also adding Power Steering to my 65 NOM 396 Roadster and ordered through RockAuto. Don't be surprised to see various Countries of Origin listed on the boxes. I had some parts, like Tie Rod Ends that said 'Made in Turkey'. Fit and finish were fine.
