Default headliner side clips

I'm in the process of replacing the headliner in my '67 coupe...I've searched how to threads and I've noticed some people are missing those little side clips holding the interior trim pieces over the doors...Evidently they aren't that important...Mine are still intact and I'd like to keep them if I can...Anybody have any tips on how to release the trim piece without breaking the tab?

Just buy some repro clips to be on the safe side. As chances are your break the clips

Well, I kept fidgeting with them...Finally got one off by sliding the trim piece to the end where it was crimped, opening up the crimp with a tiny screwdriver, spraying channel with WD 40 working back and forth and it eventually slid off without breaking anything...the clip stayed with the car...I figured I would try the same thing on the other side (which wasn't crimped on the end) and in the process of trying to get a better look in the channel, that side magically popped loose and that clip stayed with the trim...Nothing broken yet...Woo Hoo!!

Don't get your hopes up that you won't break them when re-installing. They are very difficult to get them back in the slot where they go without breaking them. I would suggest having a pair of new ones om hand.

I replaced my headliner two years ago without the clips, no issues.
