...yup, my father and grandfather ALWAYS used crocus cloth and i STILL have a bunch of their original stock laying around...is that term still in use
Re: I HATE electrical problems HELP!!!! (Chuck Gongloff)
Here's a question for you EE's out there. True or False? As voltage decreases, (as in your battery going down), Amperage increases??. I've been told that this is why the points fuse/burn. Chuck
Chuck, that is only true for a constant power load (P=i*V), for constant resistance loads P=(V**2)/R, thus as the voltage decreases so does the current. Off hand I am not sure what the clock constitutes (load wise), so I can't say which one it is.
Oman, have you considered swapping the mechanism with the quartz movement replacement??
Hi Oman. I suppose it's possible that when you pulled the fuse, you cut off the power, and allowed the clock points to open. More likely IMHO is that you pushed and pulled on the fuse box, which is connected to the harnesses within the engine compartment via 2 plastic connectors with multiple pin assemblies in each. Those connectors get corroded. As others have said, it's an easy job to disconnect each, and clean them up with contact cleaner.
Crocus cloth? Don't really know what a crocus is, other than the flower :) I believe that the abrasive on crocus cloth is non-conductive, unlike silica/mica on other sandpapers. Thus crocus cloth works well in electrical applications.
Have you taken the clock out yet? Is the clock actually "on" the fused circuit that you pulled? You'll have to check a wiring diagram for your year to find out. Chuck
Re: I HATE electrical problems HELP!!!! (Chuck Gongloff)
Have verified that the clock is on that circuit. Pulled the fuse and the clock spun down very quickly. Have not progressed any further to much runnin around for Mrs Oman. Have to look at those connections.... possibly this afternoon if nobody comes over for a sip of holiday cheer.
