Tire stickers offers both temporary and permanent rwls. If you clean the area with acetone as they describe and lightly sand away any sidewall obstacles which they don’t mention, the permanent letters will not come off (well I guess you could use the curb to grind them off!). The supplied glue and method of applying it pretty much guarantees they stay.
Okay, everyone, here is the final outcome:
1) Replaced the tires with Diamond Back Redlines.
2) Replaced all brake components on all four corners.
3) Replaced master cylinder (only the front brakes were working).
4) Four wheel alignment done.
5) Passenger side control arm (Moog K6213) and bushing replaced.
I believe the handling problems were a combination of brake issues and the rear control arm bushing.
All is good now!
I appreciate all the input - see ya on the road, Steve
…That being you can’t have both a racing tire and a red line tire. It’s either one or the other.
I have both on my Chevelle…. Diamond Back Redlines made on Nitto 555r drag radials…
I too plan on getting Diamond Back redlines this coming Spring. My 67 has Cooper Cobra GTs, but while they look new, they are 10+ years old and the car shakes violently on the Highway .
many People I know have had issues with Coker ( not all, but many), yet everyone I know with DB is happy with the quality…
this is easily overlooked but will give you terrible handling problems
Yes, and dangerous too. Just had this happen on my 65 Coupe. Hadn't driven car in a month or two, was a nice day out so I checked tire pressures, battery was recently on a tender, plenty of gas so I take off for a drive. Knew something was wrong as soon as I pulled out of my driveway as car felt loose. About a mile up the road rear of car is weaving left and right, almost wanting to swap lanes. I thought a tire had gone down, turned around and carefully drove back home. Tires all looked ok so I got car up on jackstands and pulled wheels. Tires look ok. Had to be something in rear and sure enough all the TA shims on driver side were gone. 65's aren't drilled for cotter pin so years ago I had run safety wire thru the end holes and tucked the shims down into frame pocket. Held up for 25 years but they came out. Right side still in place.
I drilled frame both sides for cotter pins, stacked shim pack back temporarily and looped with coat hanger wire for now. 4 New Toyo 205/75/R15 WSW back on and a 4 wheel alignment scheduled for next week. Short drive to shop to align and install cotter pins should do it.
