My NOM lost oil and likely seized a bearing. I'm not going to fix it, the entire engine is being replaced. I'm debating if I try to sell it as is or part it out.
The block is a '67 OTC SBC that's been bored and clearanced to be a 383. Internals are all forged and compression ratio is 11:1. Heads are aluminum. Z28 OTC intake. Cam is a solid roller. Holley Sniper EFI. The engine has lots of potential, but I'm not giving it anymore love. One concern I have with selling it complete is I have the original motor in storage, and I took the distributor, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, and SHP oil pan from that engine. I'm not selling the original parts, so I'd want to remove them first.
Thoughts on what to do? Engine is getting pulled next month.
Your bad engine sounds like a very good starting point for an engine build. The crankshaft can be reground, the connecting rods resized or replaced, good sets are available for $300-400. Pistons may be good or bad depending on how much damage was done. The externals you wish to keep are a minor issue. If you were closer I would consider buying the parts for a build. What makes you want to give up on this engine?

Time for a BiG BLOCK... A nice 454 or a 502 with 560 Ft lbs of torque @3800 RPM and 502 HP @ about 4500. No more SB @ 6500 rpm with parts on the ground...Just my $.02 worth

Strip the OEM parts that belong as original on your C2 and sell the 383 as is with a full explanation - someone will want it. You won't get a ton for it, though.
what are the specs on the heads? I might be interested in the heads and the Z28 intake....you could then strip all your original parts and sell it as a short block. Shoot me a PM whenever you get a chance.
It might be a unicorn block like mine, and therefore sought after. By unicorn I mean a '67 casting with big journals like the '68 up engines but also with a road draft hole in the rear of the block. Mine's a 383 that looks just like the 283 that came in the car, with the non-vented Corvette valve covers, etc. I would re-build it if it has the rear vent.
I have one of the unicorn blocks but mine has the small journal main saddles out of a 67 or 68 Chevelle. The factory actually set this block up so it could be line bored for small or large journals. DZ has reported this feature on this forum. The Tang for large journal bearings is already cut so it can be built either way if you line bore it to the 350 journal size.
Patrick said it was all forged internals, it might have a small journal forged crank with the long stroke. Could be worth a save. The LS3 will make a lot more power but will lose the old and unique original look.
Yes, it is the '512 block with the road draft tube opening. Can't remember if small or large journal. Will have to look up the crank I used. Agree this is a block worth saving!

Yeah, I'm kinda fond of rat motors. That said, a 427 or 454 SB would be a lot cheaper. If not, make sure the BB is a real Mk IV or an aftermarket block that will fit the clutch ball stud and a mechanical fuel pump, like a World castings 509/540. Chevy Mx V and VI motors dont.
