Default Wheel update

What is required to run late model corvette wheels such as C7 ZO6 17 x 9 .5 wheels on a C2, currently with stock suspension?

To answer the question, you really cant get modern C6/7 wheels on a C2 with the factory suspension.

Any cars running C6/7 wheels in factory size and backspace are most likely running some sort of aftermarket chassis with large fiberglass wheel tubs, and potentially flared fenders. It can be done, but its definitely not cheap.

With an unmodified frame and fiberglass body, you're really stuck in the neighborhood of 7 inch wide wheels with 4 inches of backspace.....give or take depending on the car.

Sorry Duke, you're wrong on this one. The question is ridiculous to you, because you've been around these cars since they were new. And honestly, based on current trends, its not as ridiculous as some might think. There are plenty of C2s rolling around with massive wheel and tire packages (whether we like it or not). If someone is unfamiliar with the constraints of the factory body and chassis, the OPs question is 100% valid. Are you telling me you've never asked an uniformed question in your life??

.. not about C2 Corvettes. Maybe the C2 section needs a "restomod forum" for these kind of questions. I'm not a total purist. Most of my cars have mild modifications, not noticeable to casual observation, but noticeable to NCRS type judging, but they all retain their vintage flavor with maybe a bit better power and handling than when they were new.

So your level of knowledge about C2s is now the standard by which we judge forum questions?? Thats going to eliminate all but about 6 of you from participating....and if you eliminate those that dont actually own a C2, well, you're down to 5.

you join a forum such as this to either learn what you don’t know or add to the knowledge base, you don’t join to be berated over a question that would only require a respectful response . Sorry Duke I have a ton of respect for your knowledge and your willingness to enlighten us, but your dead wrong here, Navy hit the nail squarely in the head. If I wanted sarcasm I would join a Porsche forum.

Ok, then lets get down to the truth....

if people cant ask naive, uninformed questions, on this forum, why should people who dont own a C2 be allowed to make snarky, condescending, useless comments on this forum?

Greg, you're my kind of guy and we are on the same team. The comment didn't go that far IMHO. It was quick witted, truthful, funny for some and for others apparently, not polite and I agree that with more context it can be said better. But it was the truth. Your original explanation without the opening commentary was the perfect second reply and that should have been the end. Forums in general are not perfect places, just like the world and I'm not sure people come here expecting anything different?

But, I reserve the right to be completely wrong as I often am according to my wife and friends.....

Steve, I agree with you 100%, and usually keep my thoughts to myself. That being said, with the number of threads recently bemoaning the fact that "young people aren't interested in old cars", "what am I going to do with my old car when Im gone", etc, etc, it would be intelligent from a community perspective to encourage new members....young and old. Who knows, Keith may have just pissed in the next JackFit's cheerios.... for what?

For me, THIS forum has always been about gaining and sharing knowledge. As my pops used to say, "if you have nothing positive to add to the conversation, keep your trap shut." I don't understand the snarky remarks when someone asks a question (no matter how seemingly ridiculous). None of us were born with the knowledge that we now have after a lifetime of trial and error...and, asking questions. My personal opinion, if you don't want to share an intelligent, well thought out answer to a question then don't respond at all. But, posting a useless comment adds nothing to the conversation. Comments like "have you got the AIM?" or " do you have the ST12?" with nothing else added to help with the question are just plain useless. I'm sure a newbie asking a "dumb" question has no idea what you're talking about. Show some compassion, boys. As FlyNavy said, we wonder why the next generation isn't interested in these old cars...a lot has to do with the current old owners attitudes.

the corvette community is its own worst enemy.

some of the replies in this thread are the reason that a lot of the classic car folks think of us as ********.

the real irony is that while certainly the OPs question could be seen as a bit "crazy" the first person to respond gives out wrong information all the time, and never corrects himself. so maybe he should consider selling his cars too, since he doesnt know everything about C2s?
