Default Front Windshield Help

I know there are a few threads already on the C2 windshields. But I need to reinstall mine and would like some RECENT info. I got my 66 coupe out this past year and got caught in a few down pours and the water was dripping in under the dash. After the summer I decided to remove the windshield and reinstall it. I also wasn’t happy with the way my original trim clips held the trim. So I only want to do this once more. I plan on getting the gasket from Corvette Rubber. Now who sells good windshield clips that they bought recently? I’m tired of getting burned by repop junk. Especially since you can’ t remove the clips once the windshield has been installed. Also is it better to buy the screws with the sealant already on them or use my original screws and add a dab of silicone on the hole? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think all the vendors supply the same repo chips and they are said to be “less than desirable.” I just order a complete set but plan to reuse my originals if possible. The glass guy has saved them and will reinstall my windshield with a new Corvette rubber gasket when the body shop gives the go ahead.
Below is a link to a thread showing my windshield channel.

I ordered a set from LIC many years ago for my 67 coupe and was very happy with them. But not sure where to get them now.

I believe JohnZ mentioned Paragon had windshield clips that worked well over other repo produced clips. Don’t know if these particular clips are still available at this point.

nobody makes the correct clips for the windshield of a 66 Corvette you have to deal with the reproductions that are out there. While you’re working on dealing with leaks check where your wiper shafts go through the firewall the sealant goes bad and water runs right in on your feet.

One of the first things I did when I tested the car this fall was run water into the wiper well to see if it leaked inside. Luckily both weren’t the problem. But thanks for the suggestion.

FWIW, I preserved my original clips from my 64 convert, Corvette Rubber seal. Had fits getting the lower molding to catch. My buddy got repo clips from ZIP, Corvette Rubber, no issue, 64 convert. His repo clips have 3 nips to catch, originals 1.

Pop23235 thank you for the info. I’ll check with Zip. If they don’t carry those type I’ll get back in touch with you. Much appreciated.

I had found some new service ones from GM that had been out of production for years and used them a few months back when i installed my trim and agree with POP the lower trim is a real tough piece to install . I also was using a GM nos weatherstrip . I have 2 packages of the gm service clips that i will be selling when my project is done hopefully soon

I replaced my windshield in my 65 coupe a couple of years ago. It slowed the leak down but my foot still gets wet in a good rain storm.

I now understand when the two coupes I tore apart had gobs of sealant around the front windows. I believe the trim would have stayed on even without the clips. Lol

Got my clips from corvette Pacifica they looked just like the ones that came out of my car but I don't know if they where originals. I tried everything to get the trim to fit perfect. Even trial fitting with out glass and rubber. It turned out ok but not perfect. Thought it was just my luck until I saw a resto mod that a very well known builder on this forum did and his trim was worse. Not bad but mine was a little better. Man what a relief. I talk to him about it he said he's never had any fit perfect
Put tape where clips are so you know where to strike it

I put a light smear of CRL sealant where each clip mounts and then used the honey dipped small repo screws. They were identical to what I removed.

That’s what I thought of doing. Thanks pop23235. Do you have any issues with your windshield leaking?

Haven’t completed the trim. Car hasn’t been out of the garage in 4 years. Completing the body off restoration.

Any strong feelings about NOS vs Corvette Rubber wind shield weatherstrip? Variables would include best fit, installation issues (other than the normal ones), long term quality, etc.

I get about the clips after reading this thread.

Cheers,

Richard
