2023 C2 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Default C2 car values

I am looking for a reasonable source to value a vehicle, and possibly an inspection on a C2 down in the Southwest prior to making an offer.

I see values all over the place. Haggerty placed the fair value $20K under asking price of the year and optioned car I am considering. I am thinking they are low, but would really like a referral to an expert from the community here.

This is not a show car, NCRS, etc. I am looking for a decent driver and have seen anything between $55K-$85K, then cars around $110K which is not my market. Looking at coupes 63-68, with an eye for a '64 327 car w/ AC. I am pretty flexible, just looking for something solid, does not have to be numbers matching.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

It's all about the exact condition and options on these cars. Details! Also, you lumped the '68 into the mix. Doesn't compare to C-2's. Dennis

Corvette Forum C2 cars for sale is a good place to start. Also, ebay and Corvette trader. You might put it out there that you need an inspection and possibly a forum member will help you out.

If you haven't been following this thread take a look at it starting from the last page.
Pay attention to the comments on price and value.
Prices have spiked in the last year.
Also don't buy anything without a thorough inspection.
If you're unsure then you really need one of the forum experts.

Good luck in your search.

For pricing cars, try NADA instead.

Saw a nice driver "hot rod" sell recently here for$35k...sometimes youll find one in that 30-40 range
Take your time theres plenty of these around and dont think they sell like hotcakes as the younger crowd isnt really in the buying pool like it was forever
If you can find a sound driver for 20k better jump on it fast

The difference in $$$ between the '63 and '68 coupe you are looking for is about $130,000. You should narrow your market search.

I haven't seen a sound C2 driver for 20K in the past 10 years except for scam listings.
I bought my 67 Coupe as a basket case 10 years ago for 20K.

I haven't seen a running C2 coupe for under 35k in the past 15 years in CA. Entry level cars needing work start at 40k and go up. '63's start at 90k for entry level base cars and go up from there. The days of 30k C2 driver-quality cars are 20 years ago. Not this century.

If you provide some more details (year, engine, options, color, originality, condition, etc) about the one you're looking at, you'll get some better responses specific to that car. Also include any photos you have.

You are buying a old car. You have a limited budget. Think
about up keep, and expense. If you find a C2 for 30k it might
take another 50k to get it on the road and be sound.
It is more than the price of the car to consider.
Inflation is not your friend.
Good luck

I just bought my 67 last Friday, for under $35k, its a roadster though. Nor Cal (about 12 miles from home). Running, "driveable" (needs some work), currently registered, non-matching numbers (block decked, but everything seems correctly dated. 10-footer, mostly "stock" drivetrain. Looks to be a L79 350HP, no real options (AM/FM). Incorrect color (black). Interior looks original, except tach was changed to 6500 redline (and tach face is noticeably more faded).

It does have a State issued VIN (but using the original 1967 Corvette configuration, just both original tag is gone (trim tag gone too)... And it was hit/repaired at one time (60's or 70's)

Its my first Vette, but I jumped on it because I thought the price sounded good. Wanted a coupe (would have settled for a '64 even, NOM, light flares, etc), I couldn't find a decent project in my price range.

Same owner since 1985. Under carriage clean, frame and birdcage so far looks excellent (I pulled the access plates in the rear wheel wells last night).

And a few interesting coincidences:

1) guy came to buy a used cordless drill from me, and we started discussing cars, he has a 2002 Corvette, and I said I had been looking for a mid-60's... "My friend has one just sitting, and he has talked about selling"...

2) My neighbor came outside on Friday to check out my new toy. I mentioned the seller's name, and the neighbor used a nick name... Turns out my neighbor and the seller played college football together (they are both late 60's age wise... Small world...

The state issued vin tag is what got the value down on that car. Anyone I've ever known that owned a Vette with a state issued vin has had a hard time selling them so ya, you can buy those at a discount.

Body that was hit and the state issued VIN together is about a $15-$20k hit.

Along with it not being the original color. But if the OP is happy good for him. You can’t see those things driving it down the road.

Correct, I misspoke. I am not considering a '68, only C2s.

Would be great if I could get a referral for a PPI. I looked at this forum, Hemming's, Classic auto trader, Bring a trailer is also a great resource, albeit inflated due to auction scenario, but you can really drill into specific years and see what's trading in the last 6 months.

Correct. Considering the '63 split window premiums and the 67 last model year 427 cars, I am really focusing on '64 cars first, then 65-66 cars. I think the 327 cars are my focus, with AC, coupes preferred.

All - thank you very much for the comments. I am sure the car I am interested in is at fair market after poking around. It may be a little over what my initial budget is ($50K +/-), but I still think It's fair and knowing how the market is up currently. (Current car I am looking at $75K)

While I own a C6, I don't have a lot of education on the C2s

Anyone know an "expert" or would anyone have a forum referral out in Nevada to look at a car for me? (Vegas) I am in Ohio and would fly out, but heading out of state then country for a couple weeks. I just need to understand what condition the car is if there are any major hang-ups with it.

Thanks in advance!!!

Where is that Pancho guy at?
Car I referred to is a long time members it didnt need a thing. I know a "gasp" deal comes up here and there but it wont devalue your cars
Some guys price things to sell now...L78's ride is pretty sharp I think.
As said a reissue tag drives the same

Well, the Silver '64 sold and got away. I was a little too late to the party on that one. I feel the price was correct after looking around, and really checked all the boxes for me. It was nicer than the "driver" quality car I described above.

I am looking for:
1. 63-67 327 - 365HP 4 speed with posi (427 car OK but will be over budget). Knowing that 62 & 67 will pull premiums, may stay between 64-66.
2. Doesn't necessarily have to be numbers matching, but preferred
3. Solid car that doesn't need a whole lot. Minor things are fine, but I want to enjoy the car and not have a project on my hands.
4. Good paint (not show car quality) - no extreme cracking, minor dings OK, not major body repair or accidents
5. AC
6. Silver, Blue, White, Green. Black is "OK" but no red cars, or yellow.
7. I think budget wise in this market a 55-75K car is realistic
8. No heavy modifications, 5 speed a preferred mod

The car that was for sale checked all of these off, unsure what the sell price was, but listed for $76K, which now I think is fair. Looking for that one that got away.
